Wow,chanms,good for you that your son is such a smart boy.But for me,I'm not good in maths and science as well.Therefore ,no choice but to seek for tutions.Anyway,I'm lucky to have found a good learning center for my 2 children.Especially,they tution based on the S'pore syllabus.That save me a lot of worries.My children do have work even on a CCA day,may not be much but it happens all the time.It's not the unfinished class work,it's home work ! Sometimes,I'm quite upset with it,as if the school is rushing to finish the syllabus.
Before SA 2,this will usually happen ! I hope with the new principal here,things will turn better.

Dear mrsho,

Yes, he established a habbit to do the homework by himself since P3-P4.

In P3 summer, the domestic helper (who looked after my son since his birth) left us. At that time, my son became more independent.

One night, he did not finish his homework before I came home from work. Because he planned to enjoy the TV first. However, he completed the homework nearly midnight (spent almost 2 hours because he was exhausted). Then I explained that it is more efficent to do homework sharply after school. On the next day, he tried to do homework after school. And he cheerfully found that he can finish homework within 45mins and enjoy all his favors entertainment all night long.

After this experience, he willing do his homework by himself.

Piano - start from P3, but it was found too late.

Swimming - learn from private coach since age 4, then join the external swimming team since P3.
As he won some games at SIS swimming heats, teacher invited him to join SIS school swimming team.
Never join PTA swimming class, because we live too far away from school.

When will the children start the after school activities?
Anytime you like, every child is different.
Before age 6, they may learn art, drawing, music.
After 6, they may learn some sports.

Thanks for your detail explanation. You have mentioned that at P.5, he has 2-3 homeworks every night.
May I know did he establish a habbit to do the homework by himself?

When did he start to learn piano? Did you join the swimming class with PTA inside SIS?

When will the children start the after school activities? From PY2?

我的小朋友已開始了PY1reading programme,但是我不懂國語,感到很煩,幫不倒他一起讀,不知道有否因此需要參加extra的補習班,(其实我不想),所以我或者會去進修一下pinyin,你們有其他見議嗎?thanks

學習拼音是學説普通話的開始，所以我贊成你去上一個拼音班，這樣日後你就可以看著書上的拼音符號，讀出準確的發音，陪伴孩子一起愉快的閲讀了。

I am afraid that we dont have 中英文閲讀書籍的名單. For chinese, up to now, the books are basically from "better Chinese". for english, books are from Oxford reading tree.

記得大女在p1才有reading programme,由於py2會教pinyin,所以佢自己讀都ok,不過原來現在py1已有,是否py1是教phonics,py2才教pinyin? 如果仍是,可能要求家長要伴讀了!如果要伴讀, 可能妳自己學下pinyin都好,起碼知道小朋友有沒有讀錯,教佢讀可能就難d,因他們讀得大部份都比大人準確.

至於補習班,可免便免了,讓小朋友有個輕鬆的童年吧! 妳放心,他們很快便會說得很好!以前大女的老師就錄了一些國語歌叫我放給她聽..是上堂會唱的,我發現在bookstore都有vcd賣...

我小朋友而家學緊phonics, 不過blending比較弱,聽講py2係有pinyin,希望到時我唔使咁頭痛啦?

我女女的政策是跟什麼人說什麼話,所以她跟我說廣東話,沒說過一句法文,也不知道她會不會說,每次見到法文老師都說她學得很好,不知是否真實,不過心底裡也希望真,但知道應該未去到可以交談的地步...想她繼續升sis的中學,是希望不會浪費學了這麼多年的法文...

至於課外活動,我女女由py2起參加中國舞去到p3,現在參加chior,art club和奧數(apmos)訓練,全都是免費的,也全都是老師邀請她參加的...我知道有一些課外活動是要交費,如中樂,好像是幾千元一個term.  for細女,我希望她參加gym,如果有機會選.

一年的書部費大約一千港幣,什麼也包括了,重到兩隻手都差點兒拿不起來...加上學費,十萬應該可以去多一個trip的..不過sis每年都加學費,這幾年慮積也加了很多...有點兒!

有一套vcd叫"我會說華語", vol 1很好看的,細女睇到唔停得手,裡面有一些兒歌記得大女在sis也唱過,如果要買cd,可以請教那裡的shopkeeper,她很專業,很樂意介紹...

bookfair時有八折...

我都早早查過, 住何文田的路程應該可以接受的,如計小學, 差不多7:15上車. 相信這個上車時間都係正常. 至於確實上車位, 我就不大清楚. 希望幫到你.

7:15上車 is definitely not bad. we live in CWB, we need to get on the school bus at 7:05am.
