My daughter also got flu for a week in end Jan and missed 2 subjects in FA. The class teacher said no worry as they would divide the marks in average depending on the times of exam actually took. In my case, the average mark of the subject = total marks of the 5 times (instead of 6) will be divided by 5 (instead of 6).

Hi Lydia,

According to my understanding, the average mark of a particular subject is divided by 2 (50% on FA and 50% on SA) in "every term" in "normal case".

So, if your daughter was absent during FA on a particular subject "in that term", it'll count 100% on SA "of that term" instead of counting 50/50 on both FA and SA.

Please advise how come the average mark of a particular subject is divided by 6 in normal case? You mean all 6 FA and SA (all 3 terms) count to derive an average mark? That's so scary!

You are right and we are talking the same thing but in different aspects. I focus on the average mark for the whole year quoted in the student report. In fact, there are 3FA and 3SA, totallying 6 times exam of which carrys the same weight. Then, if my daughter took exam only 5 times in the whole year, the average mark quoted in the report at the end will be total of these 5 times' marks and then divided by 5.

But you mentioned in 3 terms (average of FA & SA), while I mentioned at the end of whole year.

my daughter told me that 1A need to bring chinese text book only cos the upper classes are still have examination but it did not mention on the handbook.   
any 1A mamas can reconfirm?

My daughter wrote on the handbook that 1A class only needs to bring Chinese textbook and also the 速算 paper.  My daughter also said 1A class needs to have the Putonghua exam today.  Did your daughter mention it?

thanks for your reply.  accordingly to my daughter, no pth examination for them.  i think it should be for p.3 - p.6 only.  don't worry!
