Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Lydia, ljsze,

For sure 3.30-5.00pm is a better time slot.  I am sure the kids will not feel sleepy as they will all enjoy the party.

Just like Lydia, I will just let Brian go to bed late at night, so he will probably wake up late the next morning.

I will be off tomorrow and will be able to bring Brian to school in the morning.  Unluckily, it's not Monday.  Otherwise, I will join the Story Mom.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Doris,ljsze,
The party will be held at the Little Gym at New World Centre. Last year we just had a small party at the clubhouse but I had to do a lot of preparation. This year I don't want to prepare all the work and there will be instructors over there, so I can relax a bit.

Doris,
If you see Preston, please tell me how he performs with one eye covered.

Doris

I could only see Brian this morning.  I guess you left the school before we arrived.

Lydia

Little Gym is a good venue.  Kids can play & do some exercise there.

Preston was fine this morning.  Still a bit shy & had to stay with Miss Cheng during morning exercise session.

Doris, Lydia

I learnt from Leo's papa that he might want him to study PE class in K2.  Seems that everyone is so keen on learning Mandarin.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

ljsze,

Actually, I left the school after the kids lined up.  I was talking to the Mom of a kid in K1A.  When I returned, the K1B kids were already in the playground.  I just said goodbye to Brian and left.

I will not let Brian study PE class in K2.  I think Brian will learn the best in his mother tongue.  I will simply let him study Mandarin in interest class later.

Lydia,

I didn't see how Preston behave in the classroom but I saw him passing by the playground happily with the other kids.  He was smiling.

When I told Brian that Preston's birthday party will be held in Little Gym, he said he wanted to go there right away.  Little Gym is a good choice.

Good point.  Study Mandarin in interest class is probably the best arrangement.

Lydia, ljsze,

I read the note from LH and found that they will offer phonics classes on Sats.  I am thinking of letting Brian join.  Will ask the school more about this course.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Doris,
The seminar was very useful and the speaker gave an interesting and practical seminar. My hubby and I used the methods she taught and it did work. I hope the school can arrange more seminar like that one.
Regarding the phonics class, I'm interested too but the time crash with gym class. Maybe I need to find out more about the class first. If you have any info, pls inform me.

ljsze, Doris,
I also agree to let them take Mandarin in interest class is a better idea.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Lydia,

You are right.  I tried out the the methods the speaker suggested and I found those mothods very useful.  Actually, I was using some methods that the speaker suggested not to do.

I asked Miss Kwan this morning about the Letterland course.  She said the course (for K1) will be taught by Miss Jill.  Kids will learn the sounds from A to Z.  The content will not overlap with those in normal lessons.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Doris, Lydia

I missed the seminar as I thought the topic was not quite relevant at this moment.  It seems that both of you found it useful.  What kinds of method do you refer to ?  For what purpose ?  Please share a bit.

It's good that Miss Jill will be teaching phonics class.  I just wonder how much more kids can learn through the 6 classes.

Btw, I went to China for wedding banquet on Sat.  Travelling for 6 hours is really tiresome.  My in-laws were happy since they met their own family & relatives.  I've got nothing to do but to eat & stay at the home of their relative & watched Davin play.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

ljsze,

I am sure everyone enjoyed in the seminar and we responded quite actively.

The speaker introduced the methods to deal with the situation in which the kids are naughty or when they ask for something that parents don't want them to have.  Actually, the methods are quite simple:  say no, affirmatively, repeatedly and no explanation required.

If the kid continues his misbehaviour, give them a choice.  e.g. 'If you choose to run in this room, you have to choose sitting next to me for 10 minutes.'

I tired these out in the past two days.  The first method worked quite well, but not the second one (actually I used the second method quite often in the past).

The speaker also shared with us some cases she met and the ways she solved the problem.  I myself found it quite useful.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

i do read parenting books from time to time.  i think i've heard this before.  you're right.  i've used both methods.  the first one seems better.  fortunately (touch wood), i could handle the situation for 80% of the time.  sometimes it's difficult for me as i live with my in-laws.  my son may go to his grandma or his grandma may come for help which i think makes situation even worse.

i can understand that everyone liked the seminar since most parents have come across the situations when their kids misbehave.  we know that we are not alone.  every kid does misbehave.  it's good that someone can share an effective method.

thanks for sharing by all means.

btw, when Davin got back to school, Miss Cheng said, 'ah, all the friends are back now.'  i guess she meant davin, preston, brian & maybe including cheuk yan as well.

yesterday, we met Shing Shing in Jumpin Gym.   davin did not play with him.  so, i knew they were not good friends.  btw, shing shing is really 'big'.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

ljsze,

I heard a few times that Brian mentioned Davin at home.  It's funny that Brian called him 'Davin Mak' instead of 'Davin'.  Don't know why.

I guess kids used to form 'groups' and they used to play with the kids in the same group and ignore the others.  It's normal that Davin didn't not play with Shing Shing.

I haven't met Shing Shing before.  What do you mean by 'big'?  Do you mean his physical size or the way he behave?

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Doris

I guess teachers sometimes call 'Davin Mak' iso 'Davin'.  People pronouns 'Davin' differently.  So, I think if the teacher calls him 'Davin Mak', he will surely responds.

The 'group' factor may explain.  Let me ask Miss Cheng tomorrow.  And, one interesting thing, boys do play with boys a lot more.  This fact is even valid for the kids as young as three years' old.

Davin sometimes mentions Shing Shing, but he does not play with him a lot.  Shing Shing is the biggest in terms of physical size.  I guess he's the tallest among all boys & whereas Cressida is the tallest among all girls in the class.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

ljsze,Doris,
Shing shing is very tall. Cressida is the eldest in class and then is Preston (Preston is the eldest among boys and still so short).  Preston called Davin 'Davin Mak' too or sometimes he'll say 'Mak Ka Ming' (Chinese name). Preston told me earlier this term that Shing Shing and Maggie were naughty and he didn't like to play with them but recently he said they were good again. I asked Preston to rank who does he like to play with. 1. Preston  2. Mak Ka Ming  3. Hin Man 4. Mui Cheuk Yan 5. Lok Lok  6. Miss Jill 7. Miss Cheng  8.Maggie  9. Yu Chun Hei  10. Kayla.

The seminar really helped me a lot in dealing with Preston. I was definetly attracted by the topic and Hin Man's mom told me that professor was a good presenter.

Glad to know that Miss Jill is back.

Will you guys apply the Letterland course on Sat?

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Lydia, ljsze,

I will apply for the Letterland course.  Miss Kwan told me yesterday that there will only be 5 classes as there will be school picnic on 13 Jan and the class on that day will be cancelled.

At the beginning of K1B term, Brian also told me that Shing Shing and Maggie were naughty.  I asked Brian again last night and he told me that Shing Shing is naughty but Maggie is good.  One more thing.  I just found that Brian could recognize the Chinese names of some of his classmates.  However, he could mix up some characters, e.g. 思 and 恩 when he saw the name 梁思雅.

It seems that Brian didn't get much taller or heavier in the past 12 months.  He only weighs 31 lbs and is 98 cm tall.  I guess he is too thin.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Lydia, Doris

Same case as Davin.  He also said that Shing Shing & Maggie were naughty at the beginning of the term.  Yet, very soon after I asked him again & he said he liked them since they were not naughty.

Wow, Preston can rank his best friends.  I have no idea who Hin Man is.

Preston is definitely a bit too thin.  Brian ?  I think more or less the same as Davin.  Though it seems that they gain weight or height slowly, some of the clothes & shoes Davin wore last year are a bit small now.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

ljsze,Doris,
Preston is now 104cm and weighs 31.5 lbs. He used to be a chubby baby (medium-large size). Then when he started walking at 1 yr old, he became medium size. After going to school at age 2, he became small size and now is extra small size. Actually, his height is average but his weight is light so he looks even skinner. But he's like me with small bone size but more muscles.

Doris,
I called the school and they said they'll postpone the letterland course coz of 13/1 not cancelled. I don't know which one is right. BTW, who's Miss Kwan?

ljsze,
Hin Man was from PNB, the big mature boy now in K1A. He went for the trial lesson at Art palace. He likes Preston so much he must sit with Preston on the school bus every day. If someone else sits with Preston, he'll be very unhappy.

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Lydia

Miss Kwan is the young charming lady at the reception area.

See, then I know who Hin Man is.

I'm not sure if there's any help in the artistic sense going for art lesson.  Yet, the finished artwork at Art Gallery is really amazing.  Amazing not in the sense of how good kids have done their job, but the creativity & the idea behind each artwork project.  Each project lasts for 4 lessons.  I had Davin show his first artwork at Kids Gallery in show-and-tell earlier.  How about Art Palace ?

And, Doris, does Brian take any art course ?  Any other lesson is he taking besides Gym & music ?

Re: 學之園(海逸校)06K1

Lydia,

I got the info from Miss Kwan yesterday morning on phone.  Your info should be more update.

By the way, does the school tell you when the Letterland course will start then?

ljsze,

Brian's Gym class ended about a month ago.  He is not taking any interest class recently.  He doesn't like drawing much so I planned not to let him join any Art class at the moment.  How about Davin?  Is he taking any other courses besides Art class?
