Which one is better? Victoria, 蘇浙 or 嶺南幼兒園???

i would like to apply for SPN/SPK.  since my child is a small girl, she was not eligable for 2006/2007 school year, therefore i need to wait until 2007/2008.

Is your girl born in Nov or Dec 2004 that's why u will apply SPN N1 for 2007/2008?  I am also going to apply SPN next year for my daughter...   good luck to both of us!  The mentioned 3 schools - Victoria, KCS and Ling Nan is my backup plan for N1...

My child has attended their playgroup (for almost the whole school term) and it is just so-so, does not match up their reputation.

(1) In the 2-hour session, suppose a NET will be responsible for the first hour and the Chinese teacher for the second. Yet, within the first hour, the children will only interact with him/her for ONLY 15 mins!!(yes, it is him and her because all the Victoria campuses share the NETs, they are not fixed to one particular class) For the rest of the time, they called it "free play" and the kids just play with toys by themselves.

(2) There are so many classes and the kids have to wait and wait for their turn to the music room for the singing time, and it is usually only 10 - 15 mins long, partly held by the NET and partly by the Chinese teacher. When they are waiting, it is also "free play"

(3) The classroom is soooooooooooo small and the not much toys for the kids to play with (think about it, you have a lot of free play time with not much toys)

(4) There is clearly no compromise between the NET and the Chinese teacher, sometimes the things they did duplicated

Generally, there was too much "free play" time and the interaction with the NET is too little, if your purpose is to build up the kid's Eng, it doesn't help much. With the relatively high fare they charge, I think there are lots of better options. I am not here to bad mouth the school, I have no idea about the kindergarten curriculum, but the above is my personal experience for the playgroup. Hope it helps those who are considering their playgroups.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. The class doesn't sound very organised, and the NET seems rushed. Can I ask you a bit more? What about the Chinese teacher, is she okay? Do the kids get individual attention from any of the teachers (for how long?) How many kids are there in each class?

I totally agreed with your comments as my daughter also attended HH playgroup and I feel exactly the same......

I have thought about applying Victoria playgroup at first, but after hearing so much negative comments, i won't bring my daughter there la...  

It is quite strange that we always heard negative comments of Victoria playgroup at BK, but their classes are still full wor... may be the demand is high in the market...

Your girl will be a big girl then... there is a much higher chance to get into SPN..

I think it depends on the teacher that teaching our child.  The one for my daugter is no good.  I think mums go to HH playgroup, they think can show their superior.......  But I perfer something that make me feel comfortable.....

U mean the moms think they are superior going to HH playgroup?  Why would they think that?

The most reason that I choose Langnan because I have observed their teachers are very nice and without "dog eye see man low" that was my experience... and of course, the Christian Background is also my consideration because my own opinion that that kind school is better than normal school.

Here's my view on Victoria playgroup, and it's just my own point of view.

My daugter attends the playgroup when she's 13M till now 18M.

The reason I let her attend the V. playgroup (twice a week), because she is a active baby, and she will be boring at home with my maid, so I let my maid bring her to the class.

I don't have any expectation that she will learn a lot, cos' it's just a playgroup.  So, if she "dance" or sing the song she learns, I'm already pleased.

The teacher said my girl is good and can follow the instructions, but she is quiet in class.

1. The Chinese teacher is ok, but I would not say she is very caring. She just "did her job". I got back observation reports from her every now and then, but those comments were all "canned products", anyone can write those anytime, without really knowing my child.

2. The class got about 10 kids, but mine is in a small classroom, and it 's very crowded.

3. Individual attention, I would say about 10 mins within the 2-hour session

There is one more thing, I called the school a couple of times for various reasons, their teachers/senior staff sounded extremely polite, but they NEVER did what they have promised. I don't want to go into details but they seemed to me as very polite salespersons rather than caring educators.

Why so many parents like it ? I don't know. For me, at first when you know nothing about options available from other organizations, the first thing came up to your mind is "brand names", right? Because they looked quite safe.

Again, it is just MY opinion. Hope all your kids can be in a place which best suits him/her.

yes I agree, I am totally affected by the brand name. I visited the school yesterday, the classroom was indeed very small, and like you said, I saw many kids with their Indonesian nannies in the classroom. And I think I saw a really weird guailo, thin and tall,and very very scruffy. Hope he is not the NET, if he is, he doesn't look very smart at all...Ms Ng was nice though, is she the polite but unreponsive one?

That is why I quit their playgroup.  His English is horrible............. I don't want my girl to face him at all........
