Dear Patayypatayy,

Thanks for your sharing.  I agree that the exams and tests are easy but the competition is keen.  

For the first term examination, my daughter told me that most of her friends scored between 95 to 100 in all subjects.  So even with results in this range, there is no guarantee of the first 10 places in class.

If there is no change, they should count ranking for the first top 5 students. No ranking for balance. Students over score mark 88 will be given a remark .Subjects like Eng, Maths and Chinese will have ranking for the best 3 students. A little bit mark difference like 0.5 can make a great difference in ranking.

Hi Chiulee,

The papers are 6-8 pages and the SPCC students found them easy and got most of the questions right.  In the first term, the teachers read the Q&A to the students.  My daughter studied in an English kindergarten and her Chinese is not that good, but she still scores 100 or nearly 100 in all the four different Chinese papers (composition, dictation, Chinese study).

I remembered the class mistress told me about the first 10 places in the last meeting.  Will confirm that after getting the first report card (before CNY holiday ?)

I heard that some higher form students in the Primary School are engaged in a lot of activities (e.g. 2 school choirs, school orchestra, sports team, English drama) and still have very good academic results.  I wonder how they could manage that.  Is that a trend in SPCC that the students take up a lot of extra-cuuricular activities, or they place more emhasis on the academic results  ?

Also, are most students promoted to the SPCC secondary school?  How many % left and where do they go ?

What is the criteria for promoting to SPCC?  What is the % of student rejected by SPCC?  I know that the primary school allows 70% of seats for related persons.  Will the younger brother easily be admitted to the school?

1. may be they changed their way of ranking. Or may be the teacher just talked about the whole P1 (2 classes total 10 places)
2. yes. the students are very busy. A lot of extra-curricular activities available. But still, it seems they are OK. As I said, their parents work a lot behind, not much account on school class teaching. For instance, My daughter's learning of music and english are from outside tution since she was a baby girl. What she learnt is already more than required in primary school. Naturally no pressure at all. It is quite common in SPCC
3. As a rule , the last bottom 5 of each P.6 class are not allowed for promotion. But conduct of students also counts. Some outstanding students may not choose SPCC secondary. Some of my daughter's classmates chose DGS

I am outdated about the SPCC primary entrance detials. So far I remember is about 40% for insiders and 60% for public. Younger sisters and brothers of course a big advantage and they queue a seperate line . They are interviewed first. But much more depends his/her performance. My younger son was failed.

It depends on your kid's preference. Some kids eat very little bit even they bring their own food.

2) If kids bring their own lunches, can they enjoy their lunches immediately when the lunch bell rings (then they have 45 minutes to take their meals)?

No, they have to wait until everybody is ready and pray before they start. Don't worry, they have enough time to eat.

3) Are the lunch volunteers need to carry out their duties every day? What's the time duration and what are the duties?

Once a week. On duty between 12:15-1:00.
Each lunch mom will be assigned one class (not her own kid's class). The lunch mom will stay in the classroom to look after the kids during the time period.

4) Are their other kinds of volunteers?

Yes. Lunch mom is only part of the works offered by the PTA. There're many other activities coordinated  by the PTA. Information will be given at the meeting in June.

Your info. is very useful.  How do you see the English standard of SPCC, especially compared with English Primary School such as DGS and DBSPD?  

There are 10 students out of 56 not promoted to SPCC which counts for 18%.  It is quite high.  Will this bring pressure and competition to students?

What is the work load for students? How long does the student take to finish the home work at home?  I understand that there is class for doing home work at school.  Can most of them finish the home work at school?

As SPCC has been successfully changed to a DSS through-train school in 2001, I wonder whether the below situation still exisits.

If the answer is positive, then I think competition among student would be very keen to avoid being ranked at the last 5.

My daughter usually finishes her homework within 30 minutes after school, but she tries to do as much as possible in between classes.  It seems that the 30minutes to 60minutes daily homework sessions are used up for other purpose (e.g. choir practice or free play).

據我理解,現時的小五,小六班仍是舊制下的學生(即係以前係津校時入讀),所講情況會全校轉直資後,不再存在.如小朋友學術及品行合格的話,應該都可以直升中學!

Just to update about my daughter's impression on the lunch box.  She said that the lunch improved in Dec, and agreed to have lunch box in Feb.   Her most updated rating for the lunch is 98 marks, but be ware, I am not too sure how high or low is 98 marks to SPCC students.

Do you know that while they eat, they also enjoy  music, news, mardarin and English stories, etc.
So there is food for the mind too.
