英文好丶中文遜，怎平衡？

中文必須要每天都讀，認多些，為將來小學打好基礎
我識兩位朋友，孩子讀中文小學，即中，數，常用中文，一位小朋友中文好，以致中文科、數學及常識高分，因他識解題目。反而另一位小朋友英文好，中文差，結果只是英文科成績好，其他三科剛合格，平均分偏低。所以中文很重要，除非你想小朋友讀英文小學啦

你女幾大？我女4歳六個月。一直我比較重英文。英文巳可以陪看chapter books.字全部識讀。唔明會問。中文一年前用自己會讀，超慢進度。只完成了level 1停了。今年一月起多溫中文，自己整咭。認字大進步。不過中文應keep 住溫，因為冇得拼。重疊記憶。依家讀番我自己會讀。中文題目開始識讀。

我也曽一度擔心中文。現在看來，有時是時空問題。而且由學校教的入手，容易掌握。我女其實K1下學期才轉local 幼稚園。之前真系冇接觸廣東話生字。所以以前好似以為佢對中文特別接收不到。（我有汪培廷的大部分故事書只讀不要他認字）字咭要做歸類，加埋自創故事，可以記到好多（我誤撞的）

I have the problem exactly the other way round.  My girl is ok in Chinese (able to read simple sentence) but resistent to learn English though she speaks English everyday with her jer jer at home.  She still cannot recognize much English word and her level of vocab is low.  I just start to let her go for phonic classes but seems it doesn't help much.  Not sure what we can we do to push it up.

yes we did try.  actually every night before going to bed my helper read story with her.  Before she went to her room i also read story with her, but she prefer chinese than english.  whenever i pick an english book she would request for a chinese.  and she will even read the book out loud herself from the chiense book.  she's kinda resistent to english although she can speak.  I tried Oxford Reading Tree but she doesn tlike the story.  She memorize the story and speak out loud word by word without reading the word.  then she said she finsihed already and dont wanna read it again.  i think we try to put her in some intl kinder summer school this summer and see if the situation improve.  her spoken english is ok just she;s resistent to read and learn vocab.

My 4 year old boy is the other way round. He can read ORT stage 6-7. We have started reading ORT about half year.
He can recognise lots of vocab but he can't speak very fluently.

In this case, you should explore other level reader >> not a general reader. Most of the time, the story plays a key role to success. If she doesn't like ORT , then that's mean the story itself is not attractive . There are other level reader like, I can read... Try to explore.

that's exactly the problem - the sentence keeps repetitive and not interesting at all.  i will try to see if i teach her more vocab first before start reading those books again.

thanks for advise.  she likes adventures i.e. dinosaurs/ monster story instead of story keeps telling about a family.  also she knows i want her to learn to read so she treats it as "study time" rather than "reading time".  i need to try to indcue her interest in story first before she can learn further.  her reaction i.e. memorize the story word by word and speak out loud simply shows her unhappiness in learning and also she is just to fulfil wot i want.  so i have to stop reading those books immeditately and try to find a way to induce her interest again.  i want her to treat it as a fun experience than to just to fulfil wot parents want.

If she doesn't like story , u may find some science related like national geographic for kids. This is to enlarge her vocab. Leaning phonics is one of the ways to be able to read but the best way is to read books. Don't push her as she is resistant already. Btw the best way to learn vocab is to read books. Doing word card for English is not as effective as Chinese.

我囡一樣，英文ORT stage 6,7,8都讀到(當然未必明)，但中文真係唔得掂，只認到口人山手爸爸媽媽老師之類，老師話用英文或普通話同佢溝通係冇問題，但用廣東話佢有d野好似唔多明，我呢排播廣東話peppa pig，有英文字幕，佢就同我配音，扮唔同角色講野，真係激死我
