我沒有說任何行業高高在上, 事實上美國推廣全民編程, 目的剛剛和你說的相反, 說是要把資訊科技從高高在上 ... Programming is implementation of ideas and design resulting in a software product. The same way a factory is implementation of ideas and design resulting in a hardware product.
Production, whether it is software or hardware based, is only one aspect of the whole product life cycle. May not even the biggest part of the cycle and certainly not the most creative. We all know the people who design the iPhone take all the glory and money, not Foxconn. How many of us in HK should be doing the coding and how many of us should be doing concepts, marketing, sales, and the rest of the product cycle?
I am not saying coding is not important, I am not saying programmers are not worthy of respect. I am saying we should recognize the nature of coding and their place in the product cycle. There are unlimited supply of good programmers in India and China. The barrier of entry into the profession is low, as all we need is just a PC and a Internet connection to start coding. My girl learned most of the HTML programming with just that. The Art of programming is more a craft than something worthy of a university degree. I don't know if taking this view is belittling programming, but at least it is my honest opinion. And I might be wrong. If I upset someone here, I apologies in advance.
