thanks so much for your prompt reply!! It did help.  Actually, i understand the best way is to apply the reception class, however, we want our girl stay in the current school until 5.5 or 6 to finish the whole curriculum.  

i plan to apply year 1 for my girl though i think the chance will be slim as we are outsider and not aussie or kiwi passport holder.

May I know what kinder your girl is studying in right now? You seem to really like it and it must be really good. And what grade is she in now? I'm just asking because I have other friends who might be thinking about putting their kids into international kinder, so your info might be helpful. i am most happy to share.  my girl is studying in a montessori international kinder called Casa dei Bambini, where located in the hk side, queen road west.  my girl is the casa, the mixed age class from 2.5-6.  we love the montessori way, and this is a "real" international school.  for montessori teaching, it is very important to complete the whole curriculum.  the only worry is the path to primary.  we are not in cat 1 for esf and we live in kowloon side, not many international schools to choose.   so AISHK is one of our target, though expensive compare to esf and we are also worry about the australian accent.

Thanks GUB, for the info. I did some reading in the other BK forum on the very long thread about montessori, very interesting. I'm glad youand your girl find something you all enjoy so much.

Regarding the Aussie accent, for me personally I don't mind it at all.I have quite a few Aussie friends and I actually find their accentquite acceptable and easy to listen to. At least I would prefer thatthan a local HK accent :) I hope I'm not offending anyone here but Ithink most of us agree that the HK accent is not the most beautifulaccent...

I agree with you on the limited choice of IS on the Kowloon side too. We face the same problem and basically our main targets are AISHK andthe ESF schools (though we did submit applications to a few other ISfor backups). Most of the other more reputable ones are on the islandside, and unfortunately neither moving or wasting time on the dailycommute are desirable for us.

I would like to apply the reception class for my son as well - we hold australian passport and hopefully would have a higher chance of getting offer.  

Does any mami know whether there is an interveiw required for child & parent applying the reception class? If so what is the content for the interview?  Is it easy to get in for australian or should I aware of any other admission criteria?

Got more information about AISHK's Reception and Preparatory classes:

- They have 2 Reception Classes, one in the morning, one in the afternoon. 20 students in each. 20 minutes of Putonghua teaching per day, 4 days a week.

- They have 3 Preparatory Classes, all full-day, 24 students in each. 45 minutes of Putonghua teaching per day, every day.

- In each of the Reception and Prep classes there will be one class teacher and one teaching assistance.

Hope this info is helpful to some of you out there.

For 2010, school fee is about $92k per year. They follow the Australian curriculum and calendar so their school year starts in January/February each year.

Yes, which also means their Preparatory is equivalent to ESF's and some other IS' Year 1.
