we are also applying SPCC for our daughter for academic year 2009. She is also attending K3 at Victoria CWB.
For kids whose parents have attended SPCC or have siblings attending SPCC, the chance is quite high like 25-33%, but for kids whose family has no connection (like our case), the chance is only 5%. My girl is really shy and quiet, so chances would be slim I am just hoping we may be lucky enough to get on the waitlist so we can have chance to keep "knocking on door"....
Lets apply some backup schools so don't get too stressed-out or panic. The kids may not perform well or they will become stressed out too if they see us panic. SPCC is a great school, but it is just too popular so even the kids don't get admitted that does not mean the kids are not good enough la!
Charlotte_mom, do you know how long it took for your friend to beg until they offer her kid a place at SPCC? Was the kid on waitlist?
I also know a friend's friend's son who was on waitlist several years ago. The mom had to beg and beg until 1 week before school started. She kept writing letters and sent in many awards/artwork etc. I really think the "never give-up attitude" is very admirable but not sure I can do that myself!!!
kyliema2006, working at SPCC will be out of the question... as both myself and my hubby don't have a degree in education and no experience in teaching... don't think they will hire us as janitor
as for meeting the headmistress, i heard is really depends on how good the parents' relationship with Lee Tue Yee the headmistress... i heard some parents know the headmistress well, have donated good amount of money (1M+) as well as 2 older brothers studying at SPCC, but still could not get the youngest son in.... heard the youngest boy's academic not good plus really didn't perform well in interview.

Yes I like DGS, but my husband said DGS girls are too aggressive and competitive, and would scare some men away!!! Plus we live in HK Island so a reasonable commute (within 30 mins one way) is also quite important. Imagine stuck in traffic everyday for more than 1.5-2 hours (both ways!)
Charlotte_mom, what do you think about St Stephens Girls' primary? We are going to choose that for discretionary placement but given we only have 15 points, we are just hoping to knock on door/ get lucky during central allocation.
I heard many good things about SSGP as they are quite similar to SPCC in terms of religion/ methodology in teaching... small class too (only 33 students in each class) heard the headmistress used to teach at SPCC.
健康媽媽: your daughter must be very smart, as she got into both DGS and SPCC... are you an alumnae for either school? if not can you give us some tips on how to do well in application to SPCC?
was your daughter born in Jan thru June (older girl)? Is she assertive or has won some awards... Anything we need to pay attention in application or during interview? i think you made a good very smart choice in choosing SPCC for your daughter as your son will have much greater chance in admitting when applying SPCC!!!
