| This is not related to GH, just see some discussion regarding "show off" here, I remember that a girl (P.5 of a local English primary school, not GH) whose family is quite well-off, when she played with my daughter and some other girls, they talked about buying candies, and the girl said, " I bought a few thousands of candies last time!" in respond to another girl saying that she has bought $xx. 
 It is obvious that the kids are comparing their belongings in terms of $$$, as in HK everything is labelled with $$$.  Parents are working all day with no time seeing their kids, so just buying more and more things to satisfy the kids.  Maybe the kids do not mean to show off, yet they learn to be materialistic.
