Will you plan for any holiday trip in the coming months ?  I plan to go to Japan with Davin in November.  Maybe Davin is to take 2 days' leave from school (Monday - Tuesday).

I don't have any plan this year, coz I don't have any more holidays. Maybe next year, not sure where, for sure not Singapore.
Japan is a good choice. We went in April this year. Remember to take Davin to Thomasland, he'll be sooooooooo happy.

I like Japan.  That's why I visit there at least once every two years.  Our trip is not long & going to Thomasland is too far away from city area.  I know Davin will like it but I will go there next time.  There's a lot of venues that Davin will like.  We'll visit there.  If we can really go for this trip, I'll share with you afterwards.

Don't you like the decoration of the school this Open Day ?  I do think that they are quite creative & did spend some time in art & crafts & decoration.  And, the quality is really good.

I checked the notice on the board in the classroom & learnt that quite some parents participate the storytime session. It's good.

I stayed in LH for less than an hour last Saturday.  I didn't have enough time to take a look.  It's good that the Open Day attracted many parents.

Will you participate in the storytime session this term?  I joined once last year.  However, I will not be available in the coming Mondays.

Actually I find that there are more story daddy this year than last year. Preston asked daddy to participate but my hubby is too busy to do that. But I'll be a story mother next month. Need to find an interesting book.

It seems that all the kids enjoyed the story telling time.  However, everytime when I asked Brian what story he heard, he said he didn't know.   

I also noticed that instead of letting all the kids sit on chairs, about half of them have to sit on a blue mat during circle time.  What's your opinion on it?

Do you know what the kids usually do during circle time ?

Umm.., about your issue, my viewpoint is neutral.  My son likes to sit in the front during storytime.  So, he usually sits on the floor.  As long as he does not get sick, I'm okay with this.

Doris, do you have a problem with this ?  Let's hear your opinion.

Actually, I like this arrangement.  I could see that the kids can sit much closer compared with last year, when the kids had to sit in two rows.

It's just some of my colleagues saw a photo taken during circle time.  They said the kids will pay less attention when they don't have a chair.

Actually I asked Preston about where he liked to sit coz sometimes he sits on the mat, sometimes he sits on the chair. He said 'If the mat has a lot of people, I'll sit on the chair and if the chairs are full, I'll sit on the mat.' ( very obvious answer!) For me, I prefer them sitting on the mat and get closer to the teacher so they'll pay more attention. I think that's more like kindergarten teaching, not too formal sitting very straight on a chair.

Btw, Miss Cheng told me that Davin likes storytime.  He was quite attentive (as I can see from the pictures taken at school).  He does like reading at home.  He starts to like reading words lately.  I have to work harder to get him learn more.

I heard that some parents of K1B may want to transfer their kids to PE class.  If it's for Mandarin, in my viewpoint, I don't think it's necessary.  They have to learn Mandarin by all means (in primary school).  What do you think ?

I planned to enrol Preston in PE class in the beginning (I mentioned here b4), but Miss HUng said he is getting better with Cantonese, so need to continue with that. I think learning language is easier and the best in an envionment with the same language. I guess there is more chance to practice in PE class than CE class which has only 2 lessons per week. I guess it all depends on the kid if he has interest in Mandarin. Actually, Preston starts to like Mandarin and sometimes he'll say and sing the songs he learned in class.

I don't think there's such a hurry.  So-called famous kinders mostly offer CE classes.  I'm fine with his progress in school now.

Have you talked to those parents?  Do you know their reason(s) for it?

I chose CE class for Brian, simply because I think kids can learn more effectively using their mother tongue.  I am sure Brian will benefit more if the MOI is Cantonese instead of Putonghua.

What's more.  Putonghua is a regular subject in primary schools.  Kids will learn Putonghua in a more systematic way then.
