Totally agree. My girl is just the opposite of what I "want": I wanted her to be well versed in English, have a good sense of appreciation to Chinese culture, art and music, be gentle and elegant.
Reality is just the opposite: despite of great, persistent effort in English and Chinese reading, she lacks appreciation to Chinese culture and scores so so in English. She has no interest in art and music at all, these activities are wastes of time or even a torture to her. Instead, she is interested in history, science, geography and mathematics. She spends lots of time on these stuff, physics is particularly attractive to her.Knowing that her mathematics is not good enough, though sometimes frustrated, she works very hard on it.She is in no way gentle and og course not elegant, but she is sensible, honest, tough and diligent.
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed because in my mind, life of a girl like this is difficult. However, I start to appreciate her, I learn a lot from her, especially how she handles bullying and rejection from her classmates or even some teachers.
