Just want to add that it is not unusual for SOME classes in some schools to ask a child to seek a companion to go to the bathroom. My boy's school did for a while when he was younger because some kids ended up trying to escape from class and play in the bathroom. The rule wasn't set by the school, but by individual teachers as they see fit. So I don't think 樓主's incident is unusual. Even now in my daughter's class (who is in upper primary), the teacher has asked the kids to come together to set certain classroom rules (within limits, I guess). So that would mean these "rules" could vary from class to class. Just remember each teacher runs his/her class differently so what a certain friend's child is experiencing may not equate to the general "policy" of the school.
