請問九龍塘聖家小學, 是否英小, 中學在那裹, 是否亦是九龍塘, 另是否可以升聖家中學, 大慨直升機會有多大, 另小學及中學程度, 校風如何? 如現就讀宣道小學, 應否考慮賞試轉聖家.

Band 1school but not English Primary school,
Secondary is English school.  The English standard is very good.

The secondary school is located in Kowloon City.  I forget the address.  I don't know much about 宣道 (just know it's also a band 1 school) so I can't give any comments.  Holy Family, Mary Noll, Caine Road 聖心, Wanchai St. Francis 都是叮噹碼頭, They are under Canossa.

Maryknoll is not under Canossa group.  It should be St Mary, right?

小女現在唸小二,班上剛巧有一位同學是宣道轉來的.

小一至小三都是四班,每班約三十二至三十五人,沒有精英班.每學期一測一考.與其他學校比較,壓力應算小,.沒有夏令時間,每科都排名次,再有全班總名次和全級總名次.小朋友都很喜歡上學.

Yes, I think the school starts 夏令時間  this year which start from 16/6 & finish at12:30pm.

My daughter is in P1, her acadamic result in the first term is not good!  Can you share how to prepare the exam, especially in Chinese it seems very difficult to prepare?  Is it OK just to review the worksheets or read the book ?  

It is a big headache for me because my daughter always finish her homework very late and after I check and correct, she won't have time to read the other story book or do some extra -exercise that I bought from outside.

I'm a working mother, I only request her to finish her homework before I come home , practice piano 15 mins to 30 mins , read the story from the computer and finish the kumon math.  But she can't
finish everything everday.  

Is anybody can help this poor mother?

You might have lined up too much for your kid.  Perhaps you could let her pick what she likes to do best after she finishes her homework.

Sorry for replying late. Actually I wrote you a long reply last night but accidentally it was deleted before I sent it out. So forgive me for reverting to you tonight.

I agree with S that might be you have over-scheduled your daughter. Of course some parents tend to pack their kids with as much activities as possible,but that's not my cup of tea. I believe that one needs breathing space to keep her sane and balanced psychologically. I personally allow some idle time for my daughter, doing nothing or let her go things that she likes (which I don't find much "meaning" or "purpose" in doing).

I can't criticize others for giving their children lots of extra curricular activities because people do have different values and place their emphasis in different ways. But I think there is one thing that parents should think twice before arranging activities for kids, is it doing more good to harm to the child or the way round. If that particular activity makes the child more stressful than ever, belittle herself because she feels bad about her performance, than perhaps we can talk to her to see if she really enjoys the activity. It's pointless if she doesn't like the thing she's doing and you spending money and time on something that no one actually wants.

Perhaps I've gone a bit too far. My point is, there are two things that you might need to review . The first thing is : Is her schedule reasonable?(Mind you, don't expect a P.1 student can finish everything everyday, but keep track of her progress ). The homework seemed to me very reasonable, of course there are daily fluctuations but it's always possible to finish them within 1 or 1 and a half hour ). Then the second question is, is your daughter concentrated in her work? This is an important issue. If she is concentrated and self-motivated in her work and study, then you will have a very easy life. To cultivate that self-discipline and self-confidence is very esssential and useful . She will benefit from that for her whole life.

謝謝你的回覆, 我想問一問你本人是否在聖家小學及中學畢業的, 如你介意可以不用回答, 因為看以前在小學雜談中, 直覺上覺得聖家較注重中文, 英文較輕鬆, 不知上聖家中學時會否有困難.

Thank you so much for both of your advise.  I think I have to review her schedule and discuss with her later.  Actually, I asked her to stop piano but she refuse and she seldom practice that's why make me confuse ?  On the other hand, her school need some cert or prove in order to get the extra mark for the subject of Music in P2.  Is it correct ?

Finally, I got some information for the entrance of
Holy Family Secondary in this year and make me feel scary.  Actually, the competition in
P1 is over my estimation but it's seem the competition for the entrance to Secondary school is even more serious.

If you would like this figure I will send it to you personally.
