HKU still strictly follows the guideline of around 10% first honour, not more than 55% second honou ...
The grading system in the United Kingdom differs from the grade point average (GPA) system used in Hong Kong.
In the UK, universities employ a 100-point grading scale. Students who obtain a score of 70 or above in a subject is awarded a first-class honors classification. If students achieve 60 or above in a subject, their subject grades are classified as a 2A.
At University College London (UCL), if a student obtains first-class honors in half of their subjects, their final degree classification will be a first-class honors. Similarly, if a student achieves a 2A in half of their subjects, their final degree classification will be a 2A.
At the London School of Economics (LSE), if a student earns first-class honors in 4 subjects, their final degree classification will be a first-class honors. Likewise, if a student achieves a 2A in 4 subjects, their final degree classification will be a 2A.
It is worth noting that most students at UCL and LSE are high-achieving, with at least A*AA in A-levels or a minimum score of 4x in the International Baccalaureate. Given their academic profiles, these students can easily attain grades of 60 or above in at least 4 subjects, which would result in a final degree classification of 2A or higher for the majority of them.
