Like your hubby i worked in a British bank and i moved to London a few years back. Settling in London is not an easy task as you will find Hong Kong (or other asian country) is just far too convenient and there's a lot that you have to do by yourself e.g. it took me a whole month to get both the debit card and the pin as the bank didnt apply the pin for me (they said i didnt ask to apply so i just get the card!). There's so many stuff to get done before you can settle in so i would suggest your hubby go there first and get everything settle before you and your family go. There's a lot of details that i cannot put them all here but you will know wot i mean when you get there. But you will get used to the life in london eventually and found it exciting! for the school stuff i'm not too sure as when i went there my bb not born yet. Just when you pick the place to live you may need to be aware that the east side are always the new immigrants from south asia and not really safe. and i think the peer in school will affect your kid also so need to be skeptical with the apt. The tax rate is soooo high that you will find you almost share your income w the govt (effective ard 3x%). opportunity wise - it's much much lower than hk (and that's why we move back to hk) and to be honest color ppl are of less advantage. however i think you need to stay min for 7 years (if you have the "british passport from the legacy govt should be 3 yrs), you may need to think about the pay off of that 7 years.
Anyways i think it's a good exploration to settle in London and also an eye wide open experience in the europe continent. Good luck!
