Grade B GCSE ESL is it difficult to get? [URGENT]

My son is now taking IGCSE EAL 2nd language in May (year 11).  He got a school to accept him in Sept 13 (Year 12) on the condition that he got Grade B GCSE ESL.  My son's english is not so good, so:

1. Grade B GCSE ESL is easier than HKCEE O-level?
2. is it same grading of Grade B GCSE ESL with IGCSE EAL as 2nd Languague?


If not, fingercroxx......we must need to find a sixth form school for him in UK for the result date of IGCSE is just at the end of August, so it's impossible to find a new one but he won't go back his year 11's school.


Therefore, please help & any advice is welcome!! Many thanks.

IGCSE grade B is easy, My teacher ask me to take the exam after a year course and I got an A

IGCSE ESL GradeB is easy to get and easier than HKCEE O-level.

Sorry that I can't answer you because my son didn't take ESL nor HKCEE.

I think it's too late to have a ILETS english exam cos he's now prepare the IGCSE exam in May & he only return to HK on mid-Jun , but I want to know is IGCSE English (2nd language) is more easier compared with GCSE? or Is it same as Grade D of HKCEE English in HK?

My elder son's situation was similar to you last year since the conditional offer of Grade 12 in one school required a Grade B in English.

Though he eventually got a Grade B in English upon the release of IGCSE result in end August, I asked the school in February whether the 7.5 marks in ITELS result would be equivalent to Grade B in English. The school replied in affirmative.

So my elder son took ITELS in British Council HK and he used the ITELS result to confirm the English grading equivalent even before the release of IGCSE result in end August.

You may ask the sixth form school whether he can use ITELS result and what the equivalent marks of ITELS are to replace a Grade B in English.
