蘇浙 v. victoria

蘇浙 (本地)  & Victoria,  大家會點睇？

明白蘇浙的普通话一定較強，但不保證上K1, 要再interview,  壓力難免。

victoria的整體語文，尤其英文很好， 課程亦多元化， 學生普遍presentable, 有自信。

兩者各有優點，所以有點難以決定。大家有何意見？

我有朋友個仔今年讀緊KCS PN, 佢話去年12月所有學生都要面試, 考K1, 我啱啱whatsapp問佢, k1收番幾多成學生, 佢覆咗我, 我上嚟同大家報告

From my guessing, you will apply for another k1 school for your kid at the end of this year anyway (since kcs does not guarantee for k1 nor p1), and I believe your kid is so smart to be get both offers this year, she'll be able to get a even better k1 offer next year!

Is it you have a son/daughter studying Vic before?  If yes, you should know Vic better than anyone else.  Especially the weakness of Vic..........

thanks for your comments.  but the truth is that i still haven't made up my mind (and there seems to be quite a long way before i can).  On the one hand and as said, i do appreciate the significance of Chinese, but on the other hand, i likewise recognize the importance of giving the kids an environment that they could freely explore and learn, and also a place where they can nurture their self-confidence.  This is an area that Victoria is doing very good (on top of its excellent English language environment - and importantly, that's learning by exposing to the language, rather than "stuff-duck" style of learning).  

So ... really tough choice ...

I know where you are coming from.  I kind of agree that it is not necessary to have such a heavy weighting on PTH.

I will choose KCS, as it is more easy and lot of choice to find english course outside. my niece studied K is KCS, she is really confident in mandarine. moreover I think it is important to let kid learn more chinese in K as once they go into Primary, the chinese part can be very difficult. These are the comment form those mom whose their kid are in P1 now, so dun neglect it, and kid always think chinese is boring. so we must keep them interested in it at early stage.

I agree Chinese language is important that's why I want to stay in HK longer for my kids to learn Chinese characters.  Alot of the language specialists and 教育家 already suggest kids to learn only mother tongue before 5-6 years old, and my choice of kindergarten for them based on environment and teaching method which I wish they can freely develope their inner talent. I guess I'm a bit contradicting as well, seems like I want a Chinese environment international school for my kids education.

Just some thoughts ...

to me, mandarin is not only a form of "spoken language", rather, it is a form of "written Chinese" which is different from Cantonese.  我手寫我口 is something that Cantonese can't do.  i think this is another good thing for having good mandarin foundation ... it may also lay a good foundation for learning Chinese.

Of course to me, both English and Chinese are equally important, but perhaps Chinese is even more difficult to master.

I think it is always good to have kids to learn a language earlier.  mmm....cannot say it is useless.  Kids with early exposure to PTH may speak and write better.

Totally agree.
I never apply KCS. To me, Vic vs KCS = eng vs PTH. My husband learns mandarin at college and can speak fluently because of need at work. I learn mandarin since primary but cannot say a word now because I don't need to speak mandarin. Therefore, I strongly believe learning mandarin early is useless.
