Hi, I'm a dad of 2 kids and my current ideal plan is to send my elder daughter (almost 3y) to Victoria primary/secondary and younger son (1.5y) to St. Joseph's in the future, as I'm its old boy.  But I do have 2 concerns which I'm not sure of:

1) Obviously St Joe will have much more homework than Victoria, do you think my boy will envy his sister for not having much work to do?  And it's not quite balanced that my daughter will have much more free time while her brother is always busy on his homework (I guess)!

2) Similar to the above point, i.e. my son will envy his sister studying in a more 'classy' school and thinks we love her more?

Appreciate it very much if you could share your view!!!

Cheers,
vchan1

It's relatively easy to switch from LS to a so so IS. But for good IS, you have to plan well ahead and compete for a place.

But if I were u I would keep the younger son in LS if he can handle it, since it's relatively easy to change from LS to IS, right?

Do you mind sharing your case & concern?  Thanks!

My elder daughter used to study in LS and she has switched to an international school at secondary level.  Younger brother is in LS.  He loves his school and doesn't want to change at all.  In fact I have no plan to do so, just all friends ask the same question over and over again.

I just tell the kids that they have different characters and different abilities.  Perhaps because they are of different genders, my kids have no problem to accept my explanations.

If money is not a concern, go for IS. Why bother to stand the pressure of local school and get HK accent English if you can afford IS? If you are committed to the education of your kids, their destinations will be the same no matter they attend LS or IS - oversea univ or local univ via non-jupas.

To put it another way....even 2 different LS will have different workload.

As St joseph is a boy school, I guess it's relatively easy to explain to your kids since your daughter can't study there anyhow.

How about as a daddy you try to change the way how you judge this matter? Then they will eventually realize this is not an issue at all?

My daughter started to ask such questions since P1. Didn't take much time for her to notice the difference. I can't say she has "accepted" the explanations but she likes her school and tries to work hard on her work. I think she does not compare so much as before!

I think IS/Victoria will have higher tolerance or strategies for active or unstable children. It is not a matter of "discipline" (this is the view of traditional LS, sadly) but the teachers may need special care for the child. In some cases specialist assessment may be necessary.

DBS (男拔)同St Paul Co-ed (聖保羅男女)都係IB課程,佢地都唔係國際學校囉

I can share a bit here since my elder son is in CKY but my younger daughter is in a traditional Cath ...

Thank you so much for your sharing sschiu!!

May I ask when did your daughter start asking this kind of questions (her bro has less work...)?  And did she really accept your explanations?

By the way, my daughter is very energetic and not that easy to focus on something for more than 5-10 mins, so we are worried that IS/Victoria will not have good control/training on her discipline...  do you think our concern is valid?

Thanks!!
