Just take it easy, most children can learn any language before 3.  My boy  attend local K1 and then R to Yr 6 in IS now going to Y7 SIS.  Only speaking Cantonese at home.  Chinese Vocab. not strong enough as local school students.  Even you are going to send yr boy to Ivy league, no need to hurry right now.  Just enjoy every moment with your child. They are growing up so fast.  Good Luck.

Not sure I understand you correctly.  Is learning a language more important than having a good communication and relationship with another human being living under the same roof?

When I filled the form, I thought I put my boy into Cat. 2, ie. he could manage both cantonese and english. And he was in Eng/Cantonese class of Victoria.  Then he was admitted to RC.
For the other classmates, one was in Eng/Mandarin class and the others were in Eng/Cantonese class. However, I'm not sure how the parents filled the form for their kids.
"Accent" is not a big concern of IS. Don't bother about the filipino english only if they could communicate well. There are teachers from India, Philippine, Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, Japan, Korea, UK and etc. Think wide and be smart.

thanks brisingr for your reply.  my kid will be going to PIPS which is an international kinder, of course if she can enter a better kinder in K1, i may switch her to e.g. ESF, anfield etc.,

radiomama: is your kid regard as cat 1 ? otherwise may not easy to consider by ESF primary.  or your kid must be very fluent in english.  is your kid in english/mandarin class in Victoria?

brisingr: i have no choice if i am not free and only my helper will be taking care my child. they must communicate in english altho i noticed her phillipino english is not accurate (both accent and grammer)....

However, my son and his classmates (Total 6 kids from Victoria, HMT) had attended interview for Year One admission 3 years ago, they all passed and got the straight in offer from ESF (Shatin Junior, Beacon Hill and RC)

I don't know which Eng/ mandarin PN you are referring. However, for those so called bilingual PN or kindergarten, it usually cannot provide a sufficient English environment for a young kid to build up ...

actually i m sending her to Eng/mandarin PN coming year (3 hours a day), not exclusive english.  my helper is speaking to her in english (but you know that's philipino english which is not really native type), do i still need to arrange extra english environment for her?

may i also know which IS your sons are going? i agreed using mother tongue to communicate to the kids, but worried that they will get use to speak cantonese and less time to practise their english.... end up lower her english proficiency by the time for the IS interviews. i also want my child to enter an IS with caring teachers and cirriculum that can improve their english proficiency in a later time.

Agree.  However, good English is the very first step.  Some IS would set some more criteria during the interview: Is the kid responsive to the instruction, is he polite, easy-going, good temper and even knowledgeable.  It's highly competitive.

我朋友大仔本身讀KGV, 妹讀ESF kind, 就係因英文差(其實都唔算差只不過不到佢地standard)無得升上ESF primary.

對, 既然學方都話'NOT for cantonese students',  那又何必考進進去？
 
我間IS, 學校同我講"這裡是聯合國，小朋友會很快適應這學校的英語境中，老師會知點做幫孩子與孩子交流，從沒有失敗的例子，你放心交比我！"。我當時好感動。看，我呀B不夠半年，已與同學溝通得好好， 孩子有他們的遊戲、玩意。 看到他的進步， 我應該多謝他的同學仔， 孩子有他們的世界， 大人 (甚麼NET老師 , Playgroup ) 代替不了。
