Although the topic here is about DGJS 2nd interview, there has been a number of parents expressing their opinions about the school and those making comments from what they have heard from friends or teachers from the school without elaborating further will only add curiosity among potential DGJS parents.
So rather than increase everyone's "curiosity kills the cat" dilemma, I prefer to share with you our daughter and as parents our personal experience of the school.
I couldn't be more happier with the school and I wish to compliment Mrs Dai and every staff at the school for the way they have managed all the new P1 girls since the start of term. It's never easy especially with the new temporary campus.
All P1 girls have been assigned with a peer "mentor" from P6 so literally from Day 1, all P1 girls already had a "big sister" whom they could all turn to for help and questions.
As for our daughter, she had a wonderful P6 mentor and I had the pleasure of talking to her, she was ever so polite and full of confidence and genuinely helpful. As Day 1 & 2 are half days, to allow all P1 girls to settle in quickly, Day 3 to 5 then became full days but parents were given 30 minutes to join their daughter during lunch so you can actually watch your daughter going through the routine of taking in their lunch boxes in the classroom. This again was a wonderful experience and the P6 "big sister" all came down to help the P1 girls. A number of PTA volunteers were on hand to answer questions to some parents and explaining the routine to all parents present.
All girls took turn to take on different roles as prefect from class prefect to subject prefect etc..I would say in my daughter's class the large majority of girls have settled in very quickly and really making lots of friends.
As for homework, there hasn't been much homework since the start of term, probably revisions and dictations as well as lots of reading that you need to bear in mind. There are regular class tests that you need to take into consideration. The good thing about the reading culture at DGJS is girls become really interested in books and reading and each week there is a library period where a volunteer mother reads story books to each class.
So far, all P1 girls have had a school outing and there will be another one coming up. I would say the large majority of DGJS girls are very happy and enjoying their school life very much. Like all schools, there will always been some kids having some difficulties and this is normal, they need time to adjust to a new environment, parents need to provide support and encouragement.
Finally I wish you all the best of luck in your pursuit of a right school for your child. |
