Hi there,

I am new here.

Just wonder who has got an offer from DGJS and is going to give up Marymount.

I am now struggling. And you?

Re: Giving up Marymount for DGJS?

I want to ask too.

Anyone take DGJS and surrender St Stephen's Girls?

Re: Giving up Marymount for DGJS?

If my daughter was smart enough to get a seat in DGJS, I woud give up offer from any school unless it is St Paul Co-ed.  In which case I might need some more time to think.

Re: Giving up Marymount for DGJS?

I had just talked with my friend about the same topic since she had selected these two schools as targets for her daughter this year.  Her working experiences with DGS graduates convince her that they are different from others with good problem solving skills, sound English and very confident.  She further stated that they are well-trained and extremely competitive.  She should be very happy if her daughter can be selected by DGJS.  For Marymount, she is attracted also by its one-stop shop to the secondary school.  She had consulted a mother with daughter studing in Marymount.  The comment is that the student inside is not competitive.   It seems that two schools are quite different especially in their style as well as way of training, etc.

Re: Giving up Marymount for DGJS?

Rare and happy problem, though a tough decision.  If it were a choice between DGJS and St Paul Convent, I would not bother at all.  If it were between DGJS and SSGC, I would incline to DGJS a little bit too.  But it's DGJS and MPS.  Hm....

Other things being equal, it all boils down to the choice between a intense childhood full of achievements and a vivacious childhood full of harmony.  I haven't met a preschooler who perfectly fits the prototypical description of pupils of both schools.  It always takes some time for gearing in.

Unless you are well-informed of both schools' education or you are affiliated with them to judge your daughter's fit-in, I am inclined to DGJS on the ground that she is CHOSEN instead of being merely allocated.  From DGJS's perspective, she has the potential and character as well as a resourceful family to cope with the school life there.

Call me eccentric.  I always put fame aside.  Hope you are not offended by my guessing your background.  Being accepted by both schools, I believe your family is comparatively high along socioeconomic scale.  At primary school stage, a high achiever may not be imperative for your girl.  But if you are obsessed with a high achiever, I'm here to back your choice of DGJS.

What if it is the choice between DGJS and St. Paul Co-edu.?

Re: Giving up Marymount for DGJS?

That is suprisingly easy.  One, it's a choice between a co-ed school and a unisex school.  As a parent, you know well in which type of school you daughter fits best.  Two, look into the socioeconomic segement to which you belong.  See whether you feel comfortable with getting along with other parents.

A girl who is chosen by these two schools must be creme de la creme.  She could survive in any school.

Isn't it that the socioeconomic background of the parents of these two schools is somewhat about the same ?

Re: Giving up Marymount for DGJS?

It could be a non-concern from an egalitarian's perspective.

It could be the same in the sense that it is a segment I don't belong to.

It could also be equally joyous for the girls in either school are the pride of their parents.

But most probably, it is somewhat about the same in terms of the overlapping.  And the overlapping, if unfortunately veiled by egalitarian ignorance, the out-of-their-league displeasure and/or the girls' radiance, might blur the extent.

Due to the limited number of admissions and the unwillingness to admit failure, I find it difficult to encounter a case of getting admitted by one while rejected by the other (even rarer, admitted by both).  However, in my circle, it is not uncommon that parents apply to only one with due consideration to their own family situation.  Their affiliation to the school and their socioeconomic background top the factors.

Re: Giving up Marymount for DGJS?

My preference is DGJS whatever the comparison is (unless travelling, school fee is a problem). It's just simply different 'class'. In fact, the choice could be between Christian and Catholic. If you are a Christian, I do not think it's wise to put your child in a Catholic school and vice versa.
