I've got the same problem as well! I'm also planning on letting my d go to the states after her secondary education!!

From the kids I know in CAIS they all seem really polite and nice. They have trips to different countries every year and the kids can choose themselves. From what I've heard there's trips to Korea, USA as well as Okinawa
CAIS follows the Alberta curriculum. The students take AP exams and SAT, same as the US curriculum. But as for how different the two systems are I'm not really sure

Hi Ism0113 & Hb12699,

Thank you for your kind advice.  If the students take SAT and AP examination  as same as US, I have no worry now.

By the way, do you have any idea what kinds of universities can the graduates from CAIS get into?

They have a very detailed list on their website. One thing you have to beware of is that there aren't a lot of different AP classes offered in CAIS. If you're looking for a school with a lot of choices, I would recommend HKIS. Overall, I believe it is a very good school and the English standard should be quite high. All my friends whose kids go to CAIS seems to have a lot of great things to say.
I'm thinking of sending my d there this year as well

Hi Ism0113,
Thank you so much for your reply, so we are in the same boat now.

Can you explain in more detail about "there aren't a lot of different AP classes offered in CAIS."

HKIS is too far for us, I'm also interested in CIS, but seems impossible to get in now.http://www.edu-kingdom.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=2511642

So, what is your decision?  keeping  your daughter in CAIS until Uni or transfer to another IS later?

As far as I know,  there are quite a lot of AP choices in year 12 and "year 13". By the way, they have just initiated some changes to their senior year curriculum which would allow more flexibilities and more AP choices. You should make an appointment to talk to the school (I think the person in charge is called Mr Khiatani??) if this is your concern. I'm not the best person to answer this question.

As far as I know, CAIS graduates have no problems applying to US universities.

My daugher is in Grade 7. The core subjects are: Maths, Science, Chinese (using PTH and simplified characters), English, Social Studies, Christian Ethics. They have four terms in a year, meaning you'll receive report cards four times. In my opinion, the amount of homework and tests are quite reasonable, which seem to  be quite appropriate formative and summative assessments. PE is every other day. Other elective subjects are: Band / something computer (they choose one of the two). Then there are four rotational subjects in which they take one per term: Home Economics, Art, Drama (lots of fun), and Health Education.

So far, my daughter is happy, I am happy, my husband is happy. The whole family is happy.

My daughter studied in a local primary school and switched this year. Her English was above average amongst her peers in primary school and she seemed to fit in just fine. She was able to make good friends quite fast. Students generally are quite friendly and fun-loving - ordinary teenagers, that's what they are. You wouldn't sense the kind of cut-throat competitiveness as in the case of some elite local secondary schools.

The thing I like most is the good balance of workload. In a typical local secondary school, in Secondary 1, there are easily some 15-20 subjects in their timetable: Chinese, English, Maths, Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry), Liberal Studies, Geography, History, Chinese History, PE, Art, Home Economics including Cookery and Needlework, PTH, English Literature, Religious Studies, Music, Imagine each subject gives just one piece of homework, one test, one group project... to me it seems quite difficult to have to master so many subjects at one time, sleeping time and opportunities to develop other potential and interests will have to be sacrificed. But in CAIS, they only have to manage 7-8 subjects at one time.  She has time to do good reading, join community services, take music lessons, cycling on weekends...

This is just my humble opinions based on my observation. Other people of course will have other opinions of the school.
