各位聖瑪嘅家長你地好,

我好喜歡這所學校, 但有一樣嘢令我很擔心, 就係我想問一個好切身的問題, 學校除了中文堂是用中文教, 其他科用英文, 咁他們的功課對於我(英文不好)來說, 會吾會幫吾到佢地呢??

其實理論上小朋友係可以自行處理到d功課, 不過有父母輔導下梗係會好d, 特別係英數, 有時小朋友係堂上面唔係幾理解到, 有父母再講解下會好d. 但亦唔係必須既, 學校都有功課輔導班及補底班, 可以幫助d唔係太明白既小朋友, 所以唔駛太擔心.

There is not that much homework for P1 comparing to other traditional schools - usually 2-3 items.

In the 1st term, they only have English dictation which is about once 3-4 weeks - 1st time 10 words and 2nd time onwards 20 words.

Chinese dictation did not commence until 2nd term (what I remembered or close to 2nd term) - initially once every 3 weeks and gradually progressing to once every 2 weeks. Coverage is 2 chapters - one for words and the other for whole passage. Only one paragraph is dictated every time (not the whole chapter).

However, there are considerable volume of readings and on-line exercise. Reading is to be done on best efforts basis while on line exercise is optional. P1 students are recommended to read 40 Chinese books in 2 months time and to do 15 reading journals on English books each term.

p1功課唔太多, 一般半小時到1小時應該可以做完.
默書大概2星期1次.

不過我囡囡已經小三, 最好等小一家長再補充下.

星期六主要是上制服團隊.

課外活動有劍擊, 木球, 羽毛球, 舞蹈, 武術....等等.

thanks, 咁真係好輕鬆, 我傾向多d閱讀好過,
咁p1多唔多課外活動呢?係放學後or另有課外活動section?免費or俾錢呢?

The school will have the kids to join some 14 different kinds of ECAs such as table tennis, drawing, cricket, Chinese opera... in P1 and P2 (mandatory before the kids pick up their preference and interests in P3). There are included in the school fee and are taken place during school time.

Besides, each student has to join one of the 3 uniform team like grasshoper, brownie...

There are also some other ECAs such as musical instruments, Chinese dance, football... which are optional, conducted by external parties, arranged and coordinated by the school. These are normally taken place outside school hours and have to be paid accordingly.

monkeydad, G-ma,
after reading again and again all your comments about SMC, I think this is the most suitable school for my kid. I really like this school more & more. Per your advise, homework is not too much but prefer reading, this is what my son is doing now. My son could sit down attentionly and could read the books himself. Every sat when we go to library, my son could at least read 10 books each time.
Oh, I hope I could get a seat from SMC finally.

Really really really thanks for your support and encouragement. I wish I could have such luck.
BTW, my son is a 2003 SARs baby, his luck is already not too good, and now owing to H1N1, he may most probably miss the memorable kindergarten gradulation ceremony. He then lose the chance to perform his xylophone show on the stage and cannot get this term's academic award. Lucky is lost again....very disappointed....

外語 : 小一和小二每個term 學一種, 小三就要選定一科讀.

高年班才有遊學團, 要高年班家長回答啦.

除了中文科和生命教育, 其他全部科目係英語教學.

其實係一家四口子

Very good indeed. My son is in PN class and I am reading story books (2-3) to him every night. He always ask me to do so if I have forgotten it. Do share the experience on how to nurturing our children on reading habit.

When we go to library, normally my son will take the books and read himself. I will choose some good books and invite him to read. To make him interest, I will read the book first and show him it is very interested. Then I said I like the book very much want to read some more times before I borrow the book to him. In that case, this will raise up his interest and urge me to borrow the book to him. If at home, I will read the book with him together. Sometimes I read, sometimes he read. Sometimes, we will go to the book stores and read their books. My son always prefer to go to the book store instead of going to the playground (especially when the sun is too shining, like today's weather). he...he...
