Re: 九龍城, 九龍塘區有邊間幼稚園有埋幼兒園(n1)架?
babycancan,
I think the voice was cool because the school clerk answered your call - She is one of the few not-so-nice people in the school. (I once wrote some complaints about her in a general reply proforma.)
They do not have an open day or time for parents to visit - I think outsiders cannot go up to 3 - 5/floors because of security reasons. If you really want to go in, and if you have the time, try to go at 12:30 pm, or 4:35 pm (when either am or pm school day ends) and go in with the other parents / maids, try to look as if you are familiar with the place, then go up to 5/F (press 5 on lift), and when you exit the lift you see a counter - that is where you can get a form. But I don't think they are distributing forms yet - all the current students are given a copy to take home and I haven't seen it yet. But should distribute forms very soon since interview date is scheduled for 5 and 6 Nov.
Are you interested in the KG (half-day, located on 3/F) or the Nursery (full-day, located on 4/F or 5/F depending on class, 2 classes on each floor)? The same application form is used for both.
Actually the school is a rather common looking one - looks like any other decent KG.
All the classrooms are bright with sunshine - the school's main row of windows face south. The area on each floor is as you can see from the street.
The teachers in the Nursery are all nice teachers - for N1, all the teachers cuddle and hug the kids if they cry (especially during the first few days); I have never heard any teacher scolding a kid loudly - they smile and tell the kids not to misbehave. If the kid is really very naughty (push other classmates), he/she cannot play with toys at the end of the day when everyone else can, or stand in a corner for a few minutes - but this is when they are very naughty. My son sometimes reports to me that "today xxx was punished by the teacher and had to stand in the corner and cannot play", "today yyy was reprimanded by the teacher for being naughty". The teachers would play WITH the kids. Not only the teachers are nice, the general staff (校工姨姨,校車司機)are nice too, all 斯文,have never heard them speak rude language, they will talk to us if we meet them on the street outside school hours. Food served in the Nursery is cooked by the 校工姨姨in the school kitcher somewhere maybe on 6/F - I think the school kitchen is a requirement for operating a Day Nursery.
There is 1 teacher in KG who is not so nice though. Once a father and his kid, plus my kid and his classmate, were in the G/F small lobby together with my Indo maid and the classmate's Indo maid, the father and the children played and chased each other. The teacher scolded the children + Indo maids (but not the father and child) for running / chasing, and called the classmate's mother to say that the classmate fell and hurt herself (which was not true) and the mother scolded the maid. My son did not like this particular teacher because of this. I think the teacher had some personal bias against Indo maids.
At the time of interview, all parents and children have to wait in the school area on 4/F, can play with the toys there (which are for the school's children). I don't think there is any observation of children's behaviour here - too many children and parents around at the same time. Then children and parents then go to 3/F, and wait for their turn to enter the KG classrooms, I think 2 teachers in different ends of the classroom, i.e. 2 sets of children with parents are interviewed in each classroom each time.
The Nursery section on 4/F and 5/F use doors to separate 2 classes, and there are partitions which can be used to divide up the area common to each class.
From this year onwards, there is 1 big class for each grade, around 50 in my son's class to 4 teachers, some activities are done together, some in groups. In the past there 2 smaller classes to each grade, 2 teachers for each class. Actually I prefer the present arrangement to having Classes A and B - the children can interact better this way. Although all the 4 teachers have to teach the whole class, each has a particular group which she needs to pay special attention to (HER group), but say if a teacher goes off to the washroom with a kid, any of the other teachers around will attend to her group of kids. Also from this year, the teachers look after the same class for 2 years - e.g. my son's teachers from last year's class also taught him this year. This way the teachers are more familiar with the kids. |
