Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

This is an international school which follows the curriculum of Ontario, Canada. The academic qualification is recognized by the Ministry of Education in Ontario. There was a commercial program in TVB Pearl several days ago introducing about the school.

Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

My daughter is studying at this school.  From my experience this school is good and the teacher is very caring the student.  After studying two year at this school and now she can speak fluent English and also her writing skills is improving a lot... She is very happy with this school. I also notice that NOT so many parent talk about this school. I think most of them are not Chinese and they are from the other countries i.e Japanese, Korean and their parents come from 40 different countries.

Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

Hi Janet,
As you say you want to apply Delia School of Canada for your daughter, I can give you some opinions. I am now studying at Delia School of Canada Taikoo campus.

Taikoo campus:
bigger
more facilities
more teachers
PG1, Elementry and high school

but for Kowloon campus, there have less teachers. less classes, smaller school, start from gr.1 to gr.7

Everyone in DSC Taikoo campus speaks english because there are students from different countries. It is hard to speak your mother language because no one will really understand. Most of the people in DSC Taikoo campus  are japanese and korean. Teachers always encouraging their students to speak english, so not much students speak cantonese at all.

Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

Dear Sandy833,

How is the studying environment DSC? Do they held any after school activities or extra-curricular activities for students? How about music learning over there?

Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

Dear ALAL,

My daughter has finished P6  in a private local school and transferred to an IS two years ago and now she is a Grade 8 student.  For the first year at DSC.  She need to take ESL course.  It's hard time for her.  As you may know, local primary student is quite  difficult being accepted by IS eg. ESF, CAIS, ICS.  Her English is now better than before. However,   It is hard to compare with those IS student which  they have started to learn English from kindergarten.  I have always encourage her to read more English book and I think it can help her to improve her writing skill.

My daughter choose Japanese as second language so I have no idea of Mandarine class.  She has some classmate taken the Mandarine class (There are two classes, one is teaching simplified chinese and one is teaching traditional chinese).  They will have one lesson per day (it is around 45 minutes per lesson).

Maths is not very difficult.  I think it is slightly easy than local school because she is not good at maths when she is in primary school and now she is doing fine at DSC.

Hope the information can help you to understand DSC as I am not always on line so sometimes repy will be delayed.  Sorry about that !

Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

Dear Billsmart,

The study environment at DSC  is satisfied for me.  Most of the teacher comes from Canada and student comes from 40 countries.  Lots of student comes from Japan, Korea.  The teacher is caring the student.  The campus and the facilities is modern and updated.

The music learning environment is not very strong when compared with other IS.  Last year, My daughter has joined the school band and playing clarinet. But this year she has not joined the school band and ask her why and she said the music teacher has left DSC and the new teacher is not well organized on this.

DSC provides after school activities.  Most of them is free of charge.  eg.  This year, they have hiking, MAD (Make a different- helping people in need), soccer, baseket ball, outdoor, badminton, choir, school band, Sailing, board games, student council, chinese book club etc.....

Hope the information can help you know more !

Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

Hi Sandy,

thank for your prompt rely.

My son is p2 also in a private local school. I am looking into the possiblitiies of transferring him to international school.  For my case, do you think it is difficult to be admitted to Delia.

Your daughter is in secondary school already. I've made a visit to Delia Kln Tong and Taikoo City two years ago. The atmosphere of the school is quite Ok. I have a little worry on the discipline of students in secondary schools., because there seems to be students from Japan, Korea but also Indians or Pakistans.

thanks for your valuable advice.

Re: Delia School of Canada

Re: Delia School of Canada好唔好

Dear ALAL,

It is not difficult to accept by DSC.  They will accept all the student either from local school or from other countries because they offered ESL program for those student who's English is not reach the standard.

As from my experience, I have tried to apply two IS for my daughter two years ago.  However, none of them will accept her because of her poor English.  Most of the IS required student can speak fluent English as native speaker and the writing skill must reach their standard.  At that time, I was so upset and choose DSC because they offered ESL program. My daugher has been studies ESL program for one year and then moved back to the normal class.

I have heard from my daugher that the student  is quite discipline while at school and I have also visited the school during the lunch time, I am satisfied with it.  As she is not studying in secondary level so I can't tell you.  The secondary level start from Grade 9 to 12 and the elementary level start from PG1 to Grade 8.  They are not in the same block.

I know that you have visited the school twice and I think that you have observed the student's behaviour during your visit.

May I know why you want to choose DSC and you will not apply for other IS like ESF, CDNIS, ICS etc.
