Goop Hope School

I don't understand why there are so many discussion about GHS in bk. I remember that when I decided to let my girl applied GHS last year I received many bad comments from my friends. So the impression of GHS was very bad in that time. Thoungh I had applied this school but I did not want my girl to get into this school. But finally my girl get into this school as the result of the lucky draw was too bad (the 10th choice).
My daughter is now P.2 and the impression of GHS to me is changed. I begin to appreciate the teaching attitude of GHS and my girl is very happy in her school life.

好才有意義.
費事等間誤導左人,人揀佢又揀,讀(口五)上時又罵這校不好那校不好.

GH may not be "the best" local girl's school. But if I say that GH is "one of the best" local girl's school in Hong Kong, I think many people would agree.

It has always been a very good school - even since when I was still a student, and I think it will still be a good school. I do not say so because I am a former student - in fact, I am not. However, I do have a few friends that are GH old girls, and some even have children in GH now. What I heard is something quite different.

Anyway...... I think many parents are like me. They know, but decided not to join those discussions, which are getting more and more ugly and disgusting.

I haven't responded to this topic before as I don't really know much about the school. But I do agree with emily06. I've got a few friends, from university and from work, who are from Good Hope. They are all sharp, well-groomed and tough. Of course they graduated many years ago. But if the school can keep up its standards, I'm sure it's a good one.

可否具體講一講德望的教學理念如何令你讚賞?一天需要用多少時間在功課及溫習上?我想聽取多些家長的意見。

My personal view is that, when we judge a primary school, we do not only look at the result. We do not say a school is good just because their students are able to get high score in the exams. I also could not agree with some parents who have said that they thought a school is good because they had met some very successful or good people who had studied in that primary school. Try to think about this, there are so many other good and successful people in this society who did not study in a popular primary schools. It would be illogical and misleading to say that a school is good or bad in this way.
I think the better way to judge a primary school is to look at the ways that they use to teach our kids.

The traditional school teaching way is quite takes the students’ result in the school. The majority of schools are examining a student by the students’ result to knowledge absorption. The result good must be better; the result not good needs again to make up strongly.

I believe it is not difficult to make a kid perform well, because the ability of our kids are more or less the same. I guess the easiest way or the most stupid way would be using forces, emotional pressure, heavy workload, controls... Unfortunately, some parents in this forum are so fascinated by all these...

其實全港的學校都是以學術成績掛帥。若在所謂名校裡讀，好成績的會更加好，因有競爭才有進步，這亦是你點解要千揀萬揀都要揀這學校去讀的原因。不好成績的也要變好，否則便會淘汰，所謂適者生存。
若在普通的學校一樣，老師一定想全部同學的成績都好，一樣要催谷，一樣要分班。只是成績不好的未必會淘汰，但會編落去瀾泥班，難道這樣你想嗎。
因這是現實，我們不可能脫離現實，難道你可叫學校停止每兩月一次的學術評估嗎？或出淺口的來就你呀，好嗎？取消每星期一次的默書？或一年班教K3的書好嗎？那就晒你地呀！個個同學科科100分然後回來BK向全港的父母推介說：這真是一間很愛心的學校！

哈哈！真的發現有父母說出心底話,用麼forces,emotional pressure,咁同罰個小孩裸跑的爸爸有乜野分別。可能程度上不同而已。
我們不是要用罰呀，嚇呀這些方法。培養小孩的責任心是非常重要。他們的事他們做。不要再坐在他們旁邊陪他們做功課，以及免養成依賴之心。記住，功課是記錄低佢地學習的過程，若有唔識做便著他們問老師，不要幫忙，這樣養成習慣後，師生關係又會好的，上堂時又豈敢不留心呢！費事功課就做得好，到測驗考試時，ma mi唔係隔離就唔識做，到其時小孩又要作故仔又話老師乜乜，老師物物，最慘就係你又信晒佢。恨不得即刻返去搵老師報仇，繼而就搵校長投訴，跟住就搵傳媒呀或者上黎BK大事抨擊搵認同或同情。遇有反我者又隔殺勿論，繼而搬出一大堆學歷打壓別人。哈！
這只是一個方法，亦未必個個適用。若有更好的，願聞其詳，或公諸於同好。

As you said, are you teaching your children 適者生存 ? BTW, what's the grade your children got? Top ten in class?

Because “物競天擇, 適者生存” the principle makes to cause to so, The nature selects heartlessly washes 弱者, 弱者 only then is eliminated. What is 弱者? Is these cannot adapt to environment and cannot promote the self-ability. These are “真正的弱者”.
Can you say it definitely? In the world belongs to 真正的弱者 not to be many, even the group you are saying they can develop their learning ability.

By the way, how could you use 瀾泥班 to describe a primary students' class? They are just a little kids, how dare you call them 瀾泥???!!!

你好Dr.Cool,
哎我本來唔想講,費事比人地笑添呀,乜你個仔而家先讀這些.我個仔舊年已經讀緊喇，咁outdate 架.到時真係要退出BK.而家二年班的英文已經教present tense,past tense,present continous tense, present perfect tense and past prefect tense. 回想自己以前中學畢業都未必識用得晒呀，咁你話深定淺呀？可能你會話呢的係一年級課程又或者佢會話呢的係四年級課程，我唔識答你喇！重有，我過仔個間仲係街坊學校炸，你可想知個的名校你話會點喇對於我來說就肯定更深喇。因為就算學校唔教，家長都會比呢的書佢的細路睇不論中文或英文。
不過，我都重記得古人話：船到橋頭自然直。所以順其自
然做到自己最好便算，希望我唔駛係到批評我個仔個間學校喇。

Oops, I am so confusing rightnow. On one hand, you said, "我們不是要用罰呀，嚇呀這些方法。" On the other hand, you are calling the kids who are not good enough, "瀾泥".
