Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

I live in Tai Wai and I also want to find a half-day nursery for my daughter. But, in Tai Wai, I cannot find a half day nursery. I think that all nursery in Tai Wai are full-day.

So, I had sent the application form to Cannan and Pui Yen nursery in Kowloon Tong. This nursery has half-day and full-day classes. Both of them will invite me to attend the interview. And, after the interview, they will tell me whether they offer a seat for my baby.

How old your baby is?

I know that many parents also send the application form to them in early stage of their BB (maybe, within 6 months after the baby birth).

For other nursery, please download the file from the following site to get the list.

www.swd.gov.hk/doc/family/ccc_wklist.pdf

And, the following address are the web sites for Cannon and Pui Yen
Cannan: www.cannan.edu.hk
Pui Yan: www.puiyannursery.edu.hk

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

Hi, everyone,
I am also living in Tai Wai.  My daughter, Jasmine, is now studying the p.m. session of Kowloon Tong Cannan Nursery.  She goes to school by school bus every day.  I first worried that she was too young and she might  not get used to it.  But, out of my expectation, she loves going to school and all the teachers very much.  Her form teacher, Miss Chan and Miss Lee, are very patient and kind.  All the things in the school are well -organised.  I really think that I've made a good choice.  You may first join their play group and let the kids be familiar with the environment.  Then, they will be accustomed to the school easily.  Now, my daughter also joins the Saturday dancing class, Coby, Coby Dance with me.  She enjoys it very much.

School fee : About $2600 ( I can't  remember the exact fee.)
Language use : Mainly Cantonese.  There is a native teacher teaching English.
T/S Ratio : My girl's class has around ten kids.  There are two form teachers and one assistant teacher.(P.M. session)
Snack : $900/term
School bus : around $800 /mth.
I hope they are useful!

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

Welcome!
I think your concern is whether you will let your kid take the school bus or not.  I've considered it for so long.  Luckily, the bus driver and the helper are very helpful and experienced.  Also, there is a seat belt for each kid.  Therefore, I am not so worried about it.

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

hh4961,

many thanks for your sharing.  Your information is very useful.  I live in Tuen Mun.  I will send my son to Kowloon Tong Cannan to study N1.  My hubby and I are very concern the transportation problem.  We are very worry about my kid to take a school bus.  Because my kid is very small BB (only 2 years old) and the travelling time is quite long.  Refer to your comment, I feel more comfortable.

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

Fionyiu,

If you take a bus with your bb to school, I think the air condition and pollution is heavy in a bus. I would rather choose to take school bus (if any), normally a school bus would have around 10-15 kids together. If other kids are sick, parents seldom let them go to school. Therefore, diseases shouldn't be as heavy as in a public bus. For safety issue, I think the auntie in school bus will take care them, esp the smallest ones, and they have safety belt fastened too.

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

Hi 珠仔,

Thank you for your reply.  I think that school bus is more safety than public bus.  Are your son studying in Kowloon Tong Cannan?  How old is your kid?  Does your kid enjoy the school life?  The teachers and the helpers are good or not?  Please share your comment.

No, no, I'm just a passer-by. My son is already big and in P1, but I have the same concern when my son was small.

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

I also agree that taking school bus is more convenient and safe than taking public bus. Especially when  it rains.  Also, kids can learn a lot from the other big kid and it is part of their early social life, too. ( Of course, it can't prevent that they can also learn some bad things. ) However, it's a good way for them to judge whether things are suitable to learn or not.  My two kids like taking school bus very much as they can show their sense of belonging to their schools.

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

I think most of your kids born in 2004 Jan - June,
just want to ask
WHEN will you send the kid to N1 ?
and WHEN to send the kid to K1 (as kid born after 31/12/2003 has to wait 1 more year if apply K1 in 09/2006)
** my boy born in mid Jan 2004.
thanks.

Re: Half day nursery in Shatin/Kowloon Tong

The timing and requirement for applying N1 and K1 are abit different (if any mom know more can correct me please       )

N1: as far as I know, unlike K1, no specific time (except for some famous schools) to submit application BUT the minimum age to enter N1 is 2 years old (ie 24 months old)... so if some toddlers who born in Jan of the year, he/she may enter into N1 for maybe more than 1 calender year (coz K1 starts from Aug/Sept) but for kids who born in Nov/Dec, he/she may just go to N1 for few months and then switch to K1 afterwards.

K1: the minimum age requirement is the child must reach 2 years and 8 months old when the date he/she will enter K1.  So all child borned in the preceding year are eligible to apply.  This rule is quite strict as far as I know and so if there's a child whose was borned in 1/1/2004, and one was borned in 31/12/2003, although these two kids are only 1 day different in birthday, they may enter into two different school year term for K1.

Of course the parents of the kids whose was borned on 31/12/2003 can opt to let their kid to enter K1 by 1 year later.
