Student visas to be cut by a quarter of a million by 2015

The number of student visas issued over the next five years is to be cut by 260,000, according to the Home Office.

From cable news today:
英計劃限制外國留學生人數

英國政府為收緊移民人數，其中一個方向是限制外來留學生數目。除了提高英語水平測試要求外，更嚴打課程不獲政府認證的野雞大學，一年內取消三十三間教育機構的資格，以及暫停三十二間教育機構招生，更會加強限制留學生的工作要求，阻止藉留學為名，謀求移民資格或到英國打工為實的外地人，特別是非歐盟成員國的外地人。
政府計劃在二零一五年前減少發出合共二十六萬個留學簽證。目標將目前每年約廿五萬非歐盟國家留學生數量減少到七萬五千人。不過內政部估計新政策會令英國經濟四年內損失二十四億英鎊。
留學生數量與半工讀人數下跌，以及學校學費減少，估計損失至少三十二億英鎊。雖然政府就可以在教育、醫療、治安，及出入境等公共服務減省開支，但只節省到十億英鎊左右。
有代表新派大學的智庫組織就批評，現時英國經濟陷入困境之時，這項政策只會不利英國及阻礙吸納人材重建經濟。
英國聯合政府上台後，承諾今屆政府任期內大幅減少非歐盟成員國移民人口，當中原因包括確保英國人就業及承傳英國文化。

英國人以前好識計數,唔知現在攪邊科,為咗慳條紅衫魚而蝕條龍躉.

The cut from 250,000 overseas students down to 75,000 every year is drastic. So in the next few years only those with very good academic results can enter universities in UK!
Maybe this will cause a shift of studying overseas from UK to US more!

言下之意,即是可能令更多"students with low- and average-academic grades"去美國留學!

I think UK basically reject those people from China who "buy" their qualifications and stay there to work and live. Not sure if HK students will be much affected. But I heard from others that now it is really more difficult to get a place in UK's high schools.

More spaces are filled by Chinese and Indian.....

We spend more money on tuition fee........
