The transition form kinder to primary is not always easy.  If your child only has three passes in the first test, as u have mentioned in other thread, you can seek advice from the school.  They have special support for sen student, the help shall come sooner the better.

Otherwise, my experience is good scheduling.  For young children, they shall work with a good schedule and at that age, they still easily agree with our arrangement and follow it through.  Once they work along with a workable schedule to break down time to study, to play and to do nothing, you can see progress.

Also, breaking down the exam material for easy bit and exercise simulating test is good for strengthen their study as well.

Last but not least, don't worry that much if your boy is in P1.  Mine was from a happy kinder and he only did start to catch up in second term of P2.

Ah, having a sport ECA will help as well.

Totally agree with howgarts.

My technique to help my son when he is in junior primary:

GS: Read aloud + read aloud + read aloud.... As the vocabs are available for copying, just make sure he is well familiar with the contents.

Eng: Check his weakness by reviewing his worksheets/assessment result.  Give more exercise to him in those area to strengthen his conecepts.

Chinese: Make sure he can dictate the words he learnt, give him exercise on sentences re-organization.

PTH: Extra tutuorial can't help much at this moment, just relax, let him familiar with pinyin will do.

hi Teresa,

Your advice on how is more important, and cannot agree more on extra tutorial.

3 months has gone since my boy going to secondary, he & his fellow boys from ps are adjusting well.  Recently, as parent, my family had a discussion about the coming exam and is very pleased with the school's arrangement while combining geog, epa & history as one subject Integrated Humanities, they keep Chinese History as an indenpendent single subject.  We hope in this way, the school has better prepared the children for the Liberal Studies and also allow the boys to learn more about the history of our country to develop critical thinking and a good prespective towards our society and the world, a must factor as a responsible citizen.

You are right about mentorship of SPC, my boy is in the Scout, the 10th Group is entirely run by old boys and they have provided good role models for my boy.  Both my boy and my family are in debit, I will encourage my boy to continue this good tradition if he can understand the wealth that has been passed on to him from those old boys.

越高年級，功課越多。一年級其實唔多架。

學校每學期一測一考，上學期１０月測，１２月考。下學期３月測，六月考。平時每２－３星期會有評估，不過範圍好少，類似ＱＵＩＺ，而且形式都係環繞之前做既既ＷＯＲＫＳＨＥＥＴ。

Except homeworks, are there any projects also need to do for primary 4 above?  

My son and I are looking forward to the briefing tomorrow.

Nearly no project.  At most, there will be just one or two project each year, mostly project on computer (Powerpoint) or GS (paper project) or Music paper project).  They don't count much marks in the overalls. No need to worry.

The school is very kind as the teachers usually give project to the boys as "homework" in long vacation.  (SPC do not give assignments during holiday/summer vacation).
