My daughter is studying in a small IS.
I want to switch him to the ESF school.
I live in Kln side and the address is belonged to the catchment of CWBS.
My friend said it is more easier to get in CWBS than other ESF school and it has more foreigners students. Is it true?

How about this school is good?
Pl give me some advice. Thanks!

I don't think it is easy to get in CWBS unless you are in Cat 1. Most of the students there are foreigners.

The school is good, however, what I don't like is there are 30 kids in each class, seems too much.

I check the ESF web site, the capacity of each class is 28-30. I think it is too many also.

Do you know the academic performance of CWBS.
Is it easy to get into Shatin College?

Once you being accepted into primary school, it will be a through-train to secondary school. However, which secondary school is all depend on your school catchment.

I would never send my kids to CWBS. My students from there are smart kids, but their focus are NEVER academic. The parents let them play tennis, golf, swim, hockey, playdates... all the time. Hardly any homework, can't sit still, and the ones from Abacus are the worse. I have set a rule, if a parent calls me for lessons, if they tell me their kid is in Abacus or CWBS, I will not accept them.

I have friends who have kids in there, they do not depend on the school to provide ANY academic discipline or set high standards.... instead, they send their kids to after school activities like speech, drama, Putonghua lessons, and piano, and art.

The kids from this school likes to read and do alot of sports.

This is just MY personal opinion.

What you described is typical with ESF kids.
No academic skills. No homework. Parents have to send kids to lots of tutors, INCLUDING ENGLISH. The reason is that the kids are really not learning much. Some ESF parents here are so proud of their English standard, but unfortunately, it is not a secret that many ESF students have to attend after school English classes. Most of them are good at reading, but they are limited to reading for fun and leisure. Most cannot really comprehend the actual content of the book. Many more are really bad at writing. If oral English is all you want and need, I have no doubt ESF is good. But if you want your child to be good are reading and writing too, good luck.
My choice of international schools would be ICS, Singapore IS, HKIS, etc. ESF is at the bottom of the list.

Cara2006 has used to bad mouth or attack ESF schools and students for many years without any personal experience, supporting facts or data. So no need to trust any of her comment. She knows nothing about ESF kids.

ESF students normally take after school Chinese classes, not English classes. Most of them are developed to be all-rounded in music, sports and academic.

For those who are interested in whichever school, it is better for you to visit the school, do more research from its past records and the students/ parents of the school. Don't just take comments from unknown people here who are completely irrelevant.

My daughter was in Abacus and then now in CWBS. Good school and I am proud of both of them. If you don't like ESF better go find some other school, but not come here and badmouth ESF. I feel regret that some parents still think they want their kids to learn good English but come with tons of homework. Better go to local school then. I like my daughter's way of life that now she has enough time to play and sleep after school. Now everyday she sleeps at 9pm. I guess your kids in local school need to sleep at 11pm.... diff lifestyle, don't be jealous.

Whether a school is good has nothing to do with workload.

There are lots of very advanced after school English writing classes particularly tailor made for international schools. I know that a lot of international schools students, particularly those in the upper secondary school go to those classes. No big deal.

On the question of sleep, here is an article that I think all parents should read: http://nymag.com/news/features/38951/

She started to sleep at 8pm or 8:30pm, now I try to let her sleep at 9 pm or 930pm so she has a bit more time to read more stories and play some games before sleep!
