人工耳蝸

My son now is 8mths old and already use hearing aids since June. He has very serious hearing problem both ears. Doc from gov hospital told us, he can do the 人工耳蝸 operation in Nov when he is about 10 to 11mths old. Anyone can tell me will that be too early (little) to do the operation or shall I wait until he is 1.5yrs old? How old did ur baby to do the 人工耳蝸?

Which hospital you go??? BB should not do it before 2 years old as their head bone is not formed well yet

Did you go to see Dr Hui Yau??? Seek him advice first.

We go to Prince of Wales Hospital. I worry they want us to be the 白老鼠! When will be the bests time to do the operation? (I mean safe to do)
I read some of the info from the internet, some said 1yr and some said 1.5yrs! Pls help....

There are many oversea websites about hearing imparied children. Doctors who are very aggressive will suggest to do CI when bb is 12 to 18 months.

Dr Hui advised me the optimal time for CI is 2 to 2.5 years old because the head bone is formed and not too late, won't delay bb learning.

Can u talk to doctor again? why? when? bb should do CI

Please be aware that the growth rate for western baby and chinese baby is a bit different. Chinese baby tends to be growing a bit slower than western ones.

So, some doctors suggest chinese baby should do the surgery at around 1 to 2 years old.

Please also noted that the first few years is the critical learning period for hearing and language. Therefore, there is argument that the earlier the surgery, the more benefit the child could gain.

So please do seek for more medical advices before you make the decision.
