French International School vs Australian International School vs Singapore Inte

Academically, FIS is the best amongst three.  The IGCSE result in the last two years were all very good especially in 2004.  I recall that one girl got two to three subjects No. 1 in the world and 1 No. 1 in HK.  Some newspaper reported this.   I don't know how is the performance this year.

Waiting list of FIS is very long.  If you wish to apply for it, please do it in advance for 2-3 years.

Hi moms,
May I know if there is any particular requirements (eg, the child has to be able to speak French even at the Reception level) for applying FIS?  I am thinking of CIS, but am also interested in FIS as I also wish my son to be proficient in one of the major european language (French) as well, although there is also French lesson at CIS.
Also, the school fee at FIS seems cheaper than CIS.

Hi Lorry,

For FIS, they are divided into two stream. One is International Stream which is followed the British curriculum. English is the first language and French is the second language.
If you are applying for the international stream, they don't require the child to speak French before the admission of the Reception level. They just expect the child to learn French at the school.
So the requirement for the Reception class is only your child can speak fluent English. And also they prefer the child is a 'big' kid.

That mean they prefer the kids born in Jan, Feb in the academic year or Sep,Oct,Nov, Dec a year before the acacemic year.

Oh Thanks.  My son was born in April, so I think he should be okay.  Also, does your kid also study at FIS?  If so, can you comment on the Mandarin learning there?  I note from FIS' website that they do provide Mandarin class once a week, but I wonder whether it is enough and whether additional tutors are required, I guess.....Thanks.

I have no idea of Mandarin learning in this school. Because my child just finished Reception class. According to the school, they will have Mandarin class and starting at P.2. But only once per week. And in this school, they just emphasized on French learning. May be the Chinese in this school is very limited. For me, I hired a Mandarin teacher to teach her.

Hi Lorry,

If you want your son to have a better proficient in Mandarin, you must choose CIS. CIS provide a very good environment for learning of Mandarin. They have Mandarin teacher in each class.  And their class size is smaller. Some of my friends they prefer CIS then FIS, because of the strong Mandarin in the school.
But if you want your son to have a better proficient in French, then you can choose FIS. Since they start learning French in Reception class, and they provide a good learning environment which is  always mix up the activities with the French kids from French stream.
But another points you must consider is that, the atmosphere or the style of two school is very different.  FIS is very high demanding school, students studying there always feel some kind of pressure, especially in higher level.
