Re: interview - Canadian International School

I received the retest letter today, anybody know what does it mean? But I have not sent the reference letter back to them yet. So it made me very confuse. Anybody can solve my problem?

Re: interview - Canadian International School

do you mean the school offers you a second interview? What was the letter about? As far as I know, if you have passed the assessment and they hv got places, there should not be any more interview. I hv no idea about this year. I am just wondering whether they would offer second interviews for those who have passed the first round if there are too many applicants this year.

gogocat

Re: interview - Canadian International School

Hi ccy4921,

I thought they will release the admission test results in Feb. I just sent back the performance comments from the teacher to them yesterday!  Maybe, you can contact them about the detail.

Re: interview - Canadian International School

It is indeed quite strange. Do you think they may mix up the name of your kid with somebody else whom they cannot have a chance to assess because they just refused to get in the classroom on the interview day. I did see a number of kids refusing to go in with the teachers.

BTW, the foreign teachers look a bit stern while those local teachers are much nicer to the kid and us. I am wondering how the foreign teachers teach the kid in this school. Can anyone tell me more information about this.

Also anyone knows how many applicants for pre-preparation and preparation class and how many of them will be accepted?

Re: interview - Canadian International School

Hi Everybody,
Thank you so much for everybody, I think I need to contact them tomorrow. The letter was written like this "Should you like (my son's name) to be retested at a later time, please call the Admissions Office for arrangement. You are welcome to contactus if you would like to know the details of the interview results."

Did the school say anything before that sentence? It is quite odd for a letter phrased just like that without telling you the purpose of the letter - the letter obviously is not asking you for a retest. It is just a suggestion.

Yes and hope that he can get into CDNIS purely because I am very against the local education system. My kid was also the last one coming out from the interview but I do not think that it is of much relevance to the acceptance. However, I am already quite impressed by his staying 1 hour long in the classroom with strangers. He used to be quite against strangers and therefore I have no complaint even if he cannot get in - I know he has done his best!

I did apply for GSIS as well but it will be a long shot because my kid does not have native english standard.

Hi Newton,

How old is your little one ?  Yes, staying 1 hour in the classroom with strangers is quite impressive.  Is your son attending any preschool now ?

Re: interview - Canadian International School

hi Newton,

thanks for your reply.
did yr little one apply for the preception class? We did apply GSIS and SIS for our little one. According to my friends and my own experience, we normally could receive reply from CDNIS within 1-2 weeks. In fact, within 1 week last year. we dont have high expectation to get accepted by GSIS as well, just would like to have more chances to get accepted by any one of those... if fortunately my child could get a place from CDNIS, we would like to withdraw the application from GSIS coz we have paid the application fee only but not the assessment fee.

Re: interview - Canadian International School

Hi gogocat,

Are you applying for Reception class at CDNIS for August 2006 ?  How different was the interview for the pre-reception and reception assessment ?

GSIS and CDNIS seems to be quite a different school (believe GSIS does not offer any chinese at all).  Do you prefer CDNIS over GSIS ?  Are you applying for GSIS's K1 for August 2006 ?

Courtney

Re: interview - Canadian International School

hi courtney,

i have no idea about the difference of the interview between reception and pre-reception. parents were advised to wait outside unless your children were unwilling to go to the classroom with the teachers for reception class.
I prefer CIS, unfortunately, my daughter was born in Nov, hence she could apply for reception class of CDNIS but K1 for GSIS. she could have interview for CIS next year.. I understand that GSIS doesnt offer chinese/emphasize much on Chinese. yet, just play safe to have more chances to be get accepted by an international school. I dont think it is really our choice but the school's choice.

gogocat

Re: interview - Canadian International School

Thanks gogocat.  I heard CIS and CDNIS are more along the same type of school which they emphasize a lot on Chinese.  GSIS is purely english.

I heard it's very hard to get into GSIS and you have to apply very early (unlike CIS which you apply 2 years before the start date).  When did you submit application to GSIS for your little one ?

But is it as difficult to get into CIS as it is to GSIS ?

Re: interview - Canadian International School

courtbas,

As far as I know, the main difficulty of getting into GSIS is the admission assessment. Usually, they reject sufficient many students so that only reasonable number the kids who survive through the assessment will be put into the waiting list.
