Hi all,
Does anyone know if PLKCKY has admissions preference for foreign passport holders? Or are they preferring more local HKSAR students?

Do they have a deal with the Education Department Bureau (EDB) on requiring them to accept at least XX amount of foreigners vs. HK Locals?

So does that mean it is to someones advantage to not mention their Foreign Passport and just say they are local chinese?

CKY is not an international school, it is a private independent school with international curriculum.

“PISs serve primarily the demand for school places from local families seeking an alternative to public sector schools. PISs are required to ensure that at least 70% of the student population are Hong Kong Permanent Residents.”

There seems to be little reason for you to apply with a foreign passport.

Thanks for sharing this information! I'm just very curious though, I see ISF in that list... But know for a fact that majority of the students are from Mainland China and do not have PR.
I just wonder how they meet this 70% minimum local student population if majority of their students are from Mainland China? Or maybe I understood incorrectly?

ISF admission policy:

The student is either a permanent resident or has a dependent visa

VSA: same policy

- In accordance with our PIS service agreement, we are obliged to ensure 70% of places are reserved for Hong Kong Permanent Residents.

Well if your born in HK, I think you are automatically a Hong Kong PR. So yes, it would apply?
But isnt that what has always happened in the past? People from Mainland come to HK to give birth so they can get status here? Not how much of that happens now, but in the past it was a lot.

Yes it is. Given that they wish to just meet the 70% threshold, they still would like students with westernized family background. This also applies to the most elite local schools where most subjects are taught in English.

Well there can be other ways to obtain it.
The moat conventional one is to have lived in a foreign country for a prolonged period.
For the least, most should have obtained a degree or have worked in a foreign country for some time.

Kids who were born in HK don’t have Chinese passports. The ones came to HK after they were born may have Chinese passports and HK non-permanent ID. I am not sure whether this type of students are considered local or foreign or maybe either way.

Back to CKY, I don’t think passports play an important role. They have enough students to satisfy the 70% requirement.

Thats right.
Parents play a big part in a child’s development.

Dont expect attending a 1-hour English group per week can turn your child to be a native speaker.

Many parents have lived in a foreign country and can teach their kids English.

I m talking about mainstream English (i.e. American and British English).
