Does GSIS have any character building components in their education? Are teachers caring and passionate in their teachings? If a child is a bit behind in a certain area of learning, would the teachers just say "here is the standard your child needs to reach by next term" and expect the parents to find outside help to reach that standard? Or would the teacher talk out some methods and strategies with the student and try to reach a certain goal together? How strict is their holiday policy? Does anyone ever miss a day or two of school days due to family trips or events at all?

DoesGSIS have any character building components in their education?
àI don’t think they havesomething specifically for character building.
Do other schools have?
GSIS has asubject called Well-being in primary and it touched on friendship, leadership, emotional, that kind of things.
Not sureif this is what you are looking for.

Areteachers caring and passionate in their teachings? àI think yes – compared tothe ESF school that I know, I think the teacher knows the kids a bit better, asthere is less children in a class.

Ifa child is a bit behind in a certain area of learning, would the teachers justsay "here is the standard your child needs to reach by next term" andexpect the parents to find outside help to reach that standard? àNo, GSIS always emphasizethat they do not encourage outside tutoring.
Teachers may tell parents what parents can do at home to support learning but donot expect parents to be the one to make the kids achieve what they need toachieve.

Howstrict is their holiday policy? Does anyone ever miss a day or two of schooldays due to family trips or events at all?--> People do missschool days sometimes for certain reasons and you need to inform the teacher/ school.

Thank you for your answers Dreamkid. Yes I'm asking about primary and it's good to know that GSIS also has well-being programs just like other not as academic schools. My older child is currently in an IB school and I'm actively thinking whether to put my second child in another school with non IB curriculum for primary. There aren't many in the market and I'm researching on GSIS. But I worry that the school culture will be so much different and not sure if it's going to be too overwhelming for a parent who is used to a happy/more casual school culture, especially the school holiday clash btw the 2 schools.
I know that GSIS doesn't have Chinese classes until grade 4. Do most Chinese parents send their kids to outside Chinese classes to keep up their standard? How is the Chinese level for the kids at grade 4? Thanks.

My kid's esf school does not have well being class but I guess they will reach the same thing here and there at the end of the day.  If you ask me, I also agree that gsis is more academic but not so academic as local schools.  They have more homework but is not that unmanageable.  kids do most of the work in class and you will be amazed by how much they have done when you get all the exercise book back at the wnd of year.   I actually like the gsis way more cause  parents are more informed of the status/ teaching / events, etc.
I talked to one of the teachers who moved from other school and he said that GSIS basically teaches thing faster, as students are more or less have the same capabilities.  At his old IS, students ability varies a lot.

You need to remember that Chinese is the third language at school and the subject is being allocated less class time than german.  You have to get outside if you have high expectation on Chinese.  School has been very frank to parent that they know Chinese parents want their kids to learn more Chinese but gsis is an IS and Chinese is their third language.

Holiday may be a issue if you cares. You can almost never travel during term break if you have two kids at diff school.
