Just an additional note regarding Chinese. All three schools in question are weaker in Chinese then some other top IS IN HK. I am glad to see a comparison between these three. It seem to signify that you know what you want :)


In terms of the chinese program (just in case you are interested):

GSIS: No continuous chinese program until Grade 3/4. Given German is already a compulsory language, do not expect much chinese exposure at all. In high school they do have a strong chinese program option, but it is mainly for strong local school students transferring to GSIS from prestigious LS.

ESF: Daily chinese but at a pretty weak level. General atmosphere amongst students does not prefer chinese, unless you are in RC or one of the more localized ESF schools.

HKIS: Probably the strongest amongst the three with traditional text option for advanced level students. HKIS parents claimed their chinese is as good as CIS but that was several years ago and CIS has upped their game since then. Anyhow if chinese is not a great concern then it should be more than good enough.

I guess everyone has a different definition to "Top School" and a different interpretation to "Good" Chinese program. To avoid arguments, i'll just make a list of schools with more kids scoring well in Chinese or gave me an impression that they care to make Chinese an important subject: (some on this list are actually private schools but are not considered local schools anyway, so i've included them as well)

ISF
SIS
CIS
YCIS
VSA
RC
CDNIS
HKIS
CAIS

I don't want to hijack this thread or go off on a tangent. It should not be a discussion on IS Chinese programs. For further discussions i recommend those interested should open a new thread. Many thanks!

As far as I know, half of the students come from USA together with their working parents in Hong Kong, So they are middle class family students on average.

For the local students, their families are well off (not necessarily "very rich") because they can afford to pay school fee (plus other expenses) around $200,000 a year. Amongst the local students (about 20% to 30% of the student body), I think half of them come from families whose parents are professionals such as medical doctor, lawyer, accountant and investment bankers. There are some "super rich" families but it should not be too many as compared with CIS.

I would regard HKIS is a school which is serious in delivering a good educational program to its students. One of the characters of Americans is "if they want to do something, they aim to do it at the "top, top, top"".
