My son will start his pre-nursery in Box Hill MOS this Fall. From what I know, the time spent daily in Chinese is relatively limited comparing to local kindergartens. I would like share with parents in similar situation on how to keep your kids' Chinese up to speed (hopefully as good as the local kids and be truly bilingual). Here are some of my thoughts:

1. Nearby Chinese tutoring schools designed for local kids

2. Private (group) tutoring

3. Attending a half-day local Chinese kindergarten in addition to Box Hill

4. Chinese playgroups

Any pointer/suggestion/experience/warning to/for/in/about the above area is highly appreciated.

Thx in advance!

I don't think it is so necessary to have any augmentation plans if the language at home is Cantonese.

At campus, they speak English and home Cantonese. They're so smart to switch their language as long as they're normal. However parents may have to be prepared in the the first few months Cantonese-speaking kids may be "dreaming" in schools and that's quite normal too.

No extra training is required.  Talk to him in Chinese at home will be enough.

Take it easy!!  Kids are so smart, and they learn quite fast too. All he needs is some cantonese speaking friends who can meet him on a regular basic. He needs to have some local friends to play with, and eventually  he will learn it !
