I believe that CKY is a very good choice for parents who want their kids to learn in a happy environment. And I think most of the kids will study overseas. For some reason, we may not expect our son to study aboard even though we appreciate the philosophy of CKY (We expect him to finish the first degree in HK). Are there any parents of CKY expect their son/daughter to go to a local university instead of studying aboard?

As the more the local Us welcome the IB students, the more the IB students, including CKY students will go to the local U. My girl go to CKY not for studying aboard, just for the happy learning environment as you have mentioned.

Huum, does CKY offer IBDP only for the last 2 school years?  If so, students will apply via the non-Jupas route.  Universities in HK only accepts students who score high marks in IBDP.  For schools in HK that offer IBDP, I think most students will go overseas after graduation.

I believe currently the allocation of university places in HK between Jupas and non-jupas students is roughly 70% and 30% respectively.

Thanks for the information. Local universities will reserve more places for students who apply through Jupas. BTW, what are the grades are regarded as high scores for IBDP?

Each university will have its own requirements and it also depends on subjects.  Hot subjects (e.g. law) may require 40/42 out of 45 (45 is the full mark for IBDP), and others may need 36/38.  The average mark of most IS in HK is in the range of 33 to 36.

Have a look at DBS's university offers for its first cohort of IB students.  This is the list of offers only, and one student may have more than one offer.  You may have a feel of the ratio between offers from universities in HK and from overseas.  I use DBS as an example as it is a local elite school and I believe majority of its students are from local HK families (as compared to IS that may have a bigger portion of expat families).  I think universities would gradually increase their intake of IB students (some have special scholarship for IB students), and yet majority of places will still be offered to 334 students as universities are subsidised by HK taxpayers.

From a causal talk with a professor from U (law), I learnt that they had admitted more than 30% non-jupas last year, while I don't remember what is the exact % and I have no information of the total no of jupas and non-jupas students applying the local u, he had said that the admission of the non-jupas student willl also rely on their interview performance.  anyone have more information?

Surely this is good news.
My understanding of the total non-jupas students would include (i) students studying in HK and taking IB or IGCSE; (ii) HK students studying A level in the UK and taking IGCSE; and (iii) other overseas students.
That is why the competition is so keen.

I think most Us will have interviews.
For IB students taking the exam in May 2012, they will apply to Us in Nov/Dec 2011 based on schools’ predicted grades.
The predicted grades are based on assessments/assignments internally marked and externally moderated by IB moderators.
Interviews will be around Jan/Feb 2012 and Us start giving offers in March/April.
Most offers are conditional, i.e. students are required to achieve certain marks in their final IB results.
