That means the quota for non-Jupas applicants of different universities are different.  However, the competition for non-Jupas application into Universities are very keen.  There are also applications from Mainland and Overseas.

As far as I know, those got good IB results students usually study abroad.  It is because their families can support it.  Also in general, the universities abroad are better than Hong Kong.

If IB course being adopted by more and more schools, that means more and more Hong Kong students will take the course.  I think, as a middle class family's parents, they would like their children to study universities in Hong Kong.  However, under the present situation, chance of studying universities in Hong Kong is not high.

For univeristies accepting IB as entrance requirements you can refere to their web sites. However, for IBO authorized schools you had better check the IBO web site.

I believe that most local schools claiming go for IB are talking about IB Diploma.  They can still have many years to plan and prepare for that if their target students sitting for IB are those still in the primary years.

We never know the percentage allocated to non-Jupas applicants by individual local university at our children’s era so we could hardly tell whether they have advantage or disadvantage over students sitting for the future new HK Diploma.  I just believe that no university will reject good students for the limitation of the quota set by herself.

If the target universities for your children are both local and overseas, you may consider sending them to schools sitting for IB Diploma so that your children need not attend one more internationally recognized examination in additional to the new HK Diploma.  (My assumption is that HK Diploma will not been recognized internationally even after 15 – 20 years.)  You may wish to note that IB Diploma is not an easy one for her breath and depth requirements.  For example, students have to choose at least one of the language subjects as A1 subject which means that their English standard will be compared with other students living in English speaking countries or their Chinese standard will be compared with other students living in Mainland or Taiwan.

If you only aim at local universities, you may consider let them sit for HK Diploma for the uncertainty of the acceptance of IB Diploma by local universities if they are just moderate.

In fact, many local schools claiming go for IB will have both local and IB streams so you may still put your children in these schools and make up your mind at a later stage.
