請問遲一年入學或者重讀k1,是否浪費時間呢? 我的女兒是9月份出世,我理想入讀的幼稚園很多都不收,所以想重讀k1,試多一年,希望可以在下一年能夠入讀理想的幼稚園.

which kindy did you apply? My daughter was born in late Nov and still got a place for K1 this year but the most famous one was only on waiting.

At this moment, I still let her try whether she can study or not. I don't think big boy or big girl must do better than small one.

I have the same queries.  My daughter was born in Oct 2001.  Although she got a place for K1 this year, we cannot apply for some other school, like Pui Ching.

I will let you study K1 this year and retry our favourite school next year.  If fails, we will continue the current school.

Studying is a process and will not waste her time.

Whatever the school, the child will learn something from it.  In her life,especially when she is so young, one year is not too long.

I got the same question as you, my girl born on Dec 2001, almost the smallest girl of 2001. I will let her to study in a kinder near my home, and will try to apply K1 again in 2005.(ie. Pui Ching, Kent, Kowloon Reniesh etc)
I think be a big gril is definitely an advantage in school life!

I totally agree with you. This is exactly the same thing I'm doing for my boy. Being a big child has more advantages in his/her future study than a small child, except the small child is smart enough. Don't just look at the performance during kindy stage, you'll know when s/he gets into primary.

I also agree to you all that it is preferable to let the children be the big boys and girls.

My son was born in late September, and he was the youngest boy in the class since Nursery to K3. He was always lack of confidence to express himself and he knew that he was younger than others so it was normal that he could not perform something.

Last year, we decided to repeat him one year in K3 and let him be the big boy in class so as to train up his self confidence and leadership... He improves a lot and he can successfully be accepted by most of the schools (DSS and Private) that we applied.

So don't worry that it would be a waste of time for the child, he /she can learn some other experience out of that year. 正所謂不同環境會有不同的領受..

I don't think it's wasting time lah. Your BB will only be graduated one year later je. I'm sure you'll keep your BB learning from somewhere else during the "waiting period". All parents want to give/prepare the best for their children. I don't think your case is 過份.

My son was born in mid Dec02 and we will apply 2005 K1. We'll see his development at that time and which kindergarden accept him. If it's good, go go go lor, otherwise we'll try next year. No big harm je.

Don't worry too much.

My other concern about repeating is that I don't let my boy repeat at the same school. If repeating at the same school, he will feel like a "drop-off".

Of course, there is no need to repeat at the same school unless you find your child cannot catch up the course.

Our discussion is whether it is a waste of time for your child to attend K1 one year later.

My son is only 2 1/2 years old. You are right, I'm too early to think about his primary school life. My preferred district? Well, La Salle, DBS, DBPS ... ha ha ... are my first choices ... But now, my concern is to get a good kindy for him first. I just can't wait for another four months to have the game started!!!

分享心得..真不敢當. 話時話, 我同各位一樣,都係超級緊張parent.
第一步, 梗係搵一間愉快學習的幼稚園啦!這一步十分重要, 可培養佢對每事都有學習的興趣, 我個人喜歡活動教學. 不想小朋友咁細個要抄寫讀默.

放諸小學, 我們都十分buy 愉快學習, 終生學習, 培養自學能力...這些理念. 所以我們都幫仔仔報讀一些新的直資小學, 希望它們真的可以做到教育改革的mission.

跟據我的經驗,小朋友的表現是最重要的, 而大仔大女overall確有advantage. 起碼一個6 years old 的小朋友一定會比5 years old 的主動, 定性亦較為明白當時主考官的要求.

希望多些過來人可以一齊分享大家的經驗.
