Hello Raymond,

Just answer you briefly here:
1) The homeworkload is not heavy. My daughter is in P.2 and she usually has 3/4 per day and 2 to 3 more on Friday as there's no school on Sat. They have prep time in the afternoon so my daugher would sometimes fininsh all her homework at school. She needs to join the dram and fencing classes on 2 weekdays so she won't be able to do any in the prep time.

2) St. Clare's English standard is high. Maths is also taught in English too and the School has incorporated the English syllabus in P.4 General Studies. Other than academic subjects, the School has been very active in participating in the inter-school competitions like choral speaking (English, PTH and Chinese), swimming, fencing, etc. with excellent resutls. It's only the Schooll's cutlure that they would prefer to keep it as low profile so you won't see many sharings around.

3) The whole-day school fee is HK$2980 per mth this academic year. It's only P.4 & P.5 left as half day classes in the next academic year.

I need to get back to my daughter's revision now as it's the school's final exam in these 2 weeks. I can share more when exam is over. Pls feel free to ask.

Cheers,
Lelia

Dear Lelia

My daughter will study K1 in St Clare this September.  I intend to let her to go to St. Clare Primary.  Can you advise its academic standard, compared with SH / St. Stephen Girls ?  What do you think about its secondary school ?

Thanks

Dear Kira,

St. Clare’s Primary’s English standard is high since they very much emphasize in promoting English speaking environment. Here are some examples:
1)
Maths is taught in English

2)
Part of the syllabus of General Studies of P.4 and above is taught in English.

3)
Teaching staff speaks English to the girls when they arrive school in the morning and vice versa and during the morning assembly and presentation.

4)
The girls must speak in English in all English classes, i.e. General English, Reading and Phonics. The communication in English is between the teacher and the girls and also their peer. According to my daughter, if anyone in the English class is found not following the rule, the teacher will remark the case in record and deduct marks from the daily achievement record.

Other than the English subject, the school also places great concern on Chinese subject as it’s the school’s intention to ensure the girls are attaining high standard in both English and Chinese.
I think St. Clare’s is more all rounded in terms of academic and activities involvement. Since the new principal, Mrs. Alice Wong came on board 3 years ago, the exposure of St. Clare’s is significantly higher than in the past and the students have achieved excellent results in the inter-school’s competitions like swimming, basket ball, fencing, choral speaking, etc. Besides, since the establishment of the PTA 3 years ago, St. Clare’s also participated in lots of activities and performances organized by the FPTA in the Central and Western District, so the girls have more opportunities in acquiring various aspects of knowledge and at the same time share with others their excellent performance.

The secondary school of St. Clare’s (i.e. St. Clare’s Girls
School) is more demanding under the leadership of the new principal, Mrs. Chiu. They opt for students with band 1’s result. If you have the chance to browse through St. Clare’s Primary’s website, you will have a brief idea on the girls’ admission status to the secondary school.

I hope the above helps and I’m happy to share more.

Cheers,
Lelia

Hi gmammama,

There're a lot of activities organized by the school and I can name a few here which are drama, fencing, choir, swimming, tennis, etc. The notice was distributed to the students last week, or earlier and they're posted in the school website at the following path:
http://scps.school.hk/system/tool/resource/index.php?charset=big5&netroom_id=1&tool_id=12287&channel=campus&parent_id=837

The students achieved pretty good results in the inter-school competitions in swimming, choral speaking, etc.

As for the French class, the school offers Frech lessons to P.1 to P.4 students. Alhtough French is not one the core subjects and no tests / exams for it, they do have dictation from time to time. My daughter enjoys it and they have songs composed for the girls to sing along which makes them easier to learn.  To me, I think it's a good opportunity to learn a foreign language in school which is not too common compared to other schools.

Please feel free to ask if you have further questions.

Cheers,
Lelia
