Re: Renaissance College Interview

CY62,

Y6 of local school is equivalent to Y7 in RC already, they accept kids based on the year of birth.  I believe you are applying for Y8 in 06-07.  So may try for Y7 then, not Y6.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Hi CY62,

Why don't you call RC for suggestion. I think RC reject is because of the edu system that you son being studied is traditional, RC believe there will be a big gap between, I guess they have places and it may not really matter if it is Y6 or Y7.
If you really want to switch your son's edu sys from traditional to int. I suggest you to make an appointment to meet the principle and ask for suggestion if you insist to get in.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear All,

Thank you for your attention and suggestion. I'll think it over. Meanwhile, my son was accepted by Pooi Kei College, a DSS school in Shatin. At least it is a EMI school, so I may let my son study there.

The max. limit has to be a bit above the actual fee, this is very common practice in autopay instruction to allow some flexibility, e.g. there may be some misc. fees occasionally to be paid together with the school fee.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

It is because the secondary school fee is 82000 per annum. That is why it is suggested you set the direct debit amount at 8200 (10 payments per year).

Re: Renaissance College Interview

I need to reply them b4 16Mar.  I talked to many friends if I should let my daughter to RC.  Most of them encouraged me not to.  Well, their kids are in local school.  I think that there are two stream, local and international.  Both think that their kids get good ed.

After reading what "father" said here, I agree his points.  What I think is, if I let my kid to study in RC, there will be  no return.  She can hardly turn back to the local system.  That will be hard for her.  Moreover, I still worry about the Chinese lesson.

STill have two days to think.

Why no return?  P1 in RC is equal to K3 of local kinder, but the kid will likely learn more than in K3.  Some people will let the kids study P1 in IS and then still apply P1 of famous local schools.  Depends what you want, and which kinder your kid is attending.  If the kid is studying very well in P1 of RC, then can continue, if not, can still apply P1 of local primary.

In fact, IB program is becoming more popular, even DBS will have IB starting 2009.  So RC will be much more competitive in a few years time.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

ivac,

They are adopting 'small class' policy. Max. 30 students in one class. For P.1, they have a teaching assistant (bilingual) to help the class teacher. Not sure about P.2.

Currently, there's no after-school activities in Phoenix. But I guess this is becos' of their small campus now and there should be after school ECA after the move to MOS, but usually this would require extra fee. Now, they have ECA every Wed in the afternoon within school hour, which requires no extra fee (except those like Taekwondo, French, etc)

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Dear Marcus,

You may call the school on 27082239.

By the way, RC will have about 750 students (source: Phoenix's newsletter).  Does anyone know how many students are from Phoenix or currently how many students Phoenix has?

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Hello, I'm a new comer here. I intend to send my son to either a ESF Primary school or Renaissance College. May I know if I could apply for both schools at the same time? I heard that Renaissance College would not offer any interview if the child was accepted by one of the ESF schools. Is that right?

Re: Renaissance College Interview

My husband and I decided not to let my daughter to join RC, although she is accepted.

Some parents from Pheonix told me that their kids become very impolite and naughty after joining Ph for a year and they decided to turn back to local.

I talked to my daughter's teachers, all of them think that international school is not suitable for my daughter as she is shine and 被動.

Anyway, I have made a decision.  Hope parents here have their good choice.

Re: Renaissance College Interview

Doris,

My daughter now study in p.1 phoenix international a year.  For the starting 3 months I have a same comments with your friend my daughter look imploite and naughty.  However, I think I'm wrong later on.  Of course, interantional school is more free complian with local school but not the kid is not naughty.  Before, my daughter is very very shy.  However, now she become more independence and no shy and she is very happy and enjoy her school life and english is very good if study in internaitonal school.  Now, she can write a story for a pages.  But, of course, local school also have an advantage.
