Anybody's child joined YMCA Summer Playgroup (3-4 yrs) - Camel Group - which started on 18.7.2005 please?  Is your child enjoying the class?

My daughter is in Camel (AM) too.  I think she like this summer class better than her existing KG.  The teachers (eng speaking chinese) are very nice and friendly. Is your child also in this class?  What do you think?  Let's share more!

我個仔都是(3-4yr)am班，不過是crocodile組！不過阿仔除了第1日是沒有喊之外，現在日日都哭着不上playgroup！而且連我問吓在playgroup有セ嘢玩，都唔準問！他已經番了一年幼兒園，本諗住佢會好怏適應，点知....

8月2日的旅行你們去唔去？本來通告話parent-child，但現在又改為得child！我就真係有D唔放心，所以tick咗disagree！

你們班有幾多個老師？我班有3個，全都是印度人！不過他們都好有經驗，阿仔喊到爬哂地，佢地都可以安撫到他！

喺呢，点解你哋camel班家長可以在課室陪小孩咁耐？我班一放低阿仔就趕我走！

We won't join the outing because the hot weather! I also noticed that there are 2 maids stay with their kids(because of non stop crying) on the first day.     

BTW, 1 Indian teacher, 2 eng speaking chinese teachers and 1 assistant (indian too,not sure whether she stay for the whole class)!

My daughter is in Camel group but she's not enjoying it. I don't know what's wrong but she keeps telling me that she doesn't want to go to the playgroup... and she cries when the helper leaves the room, even after one week.   I find it strange as she has joined the YMCA playgroup for 3 terms and should be used to the environment, except that now there're more children.  And she even has a few friends there from her last class.  So I wonder what the problem is.  She told me she didn't like the teachers (she likes the Indian teacher only).   I'm glad to hear that the Chinese teachers are OK too.

Like your son, my daughter has been crying   every day.  She cried so hard that she threw up.  And she told me that she didn't want to go to the playgroup.  Have you found out why he cried?  Our guess is my daughter is insecure and wants the helper to stay with her.  In her previous class, the teachers asked the helper to stay outside only after mid-term and not at the beginning. I've talked to the Program Officer and requested that they let the helper stay for a few more days until she feels comfortable and hope that would stop the crying.

My daughter will not join the outing because I'm afraid it would be too hot.  

According to my daughter, there're 3 teachers (1 Indian & 2 Chinese) and 1 assistant (Indian). I think the teachers allowed the caregivers to stay for special reasons.  In my daughter's case, she cries every day.  Another boy in the class also requires full attention and that's why the helper had to stay.

我個仔今天番playgroup都有喊，放學後我同佢傾少少関於playgroup的東西,佢就叫我唔好講嘢！阿婆話明天帶佢番学,佢仲即時喊了出來！

My daughter cried too , during the playdough session when the helper stayed outside.  Finally, the teacher had to bring her to the helper.  My helper said there were still a few children who cried in the playgroup.

In your son's case, I can understand why he cries, new school, new teachers and classmates and "new" language too.  Besides, I believe he's one of the youngest as the group is for 3-4 years old.  But my daughter is familiar with YMCA, she has some old friends there and she speaks English but she still feels insecure without the helper.    Now I realize that some children are very resistant to the smallest change.  My daughter told me that she liked the room on 3/F and not the 2/F (her previous class was held in the seminar room on 3/F).  I really worry when she starts K1 in September.

I never thought about withdrawing… because fees have already been paid and I don't want her to stay home and do nothing during the summer.  And I can't remove her from school just because she cries.  This is only the second week and we still have 2 and a half weeks to try. Hope our children will finally enjoy themselves.  :

我相信我個仔和你女女都是些很怕轉變的小朋友！7月中去阿仔學校攞成績表時,老師都話佢要用咗半年時間才對佢建立信任！今次這個playgroup可能上到尾聲他才開始投入,所以我都會檢討吓明年仲報唔報！

除了summer playgroup外,我還報了YMCA的Smart EQ Workshop不知何解,他非常喜歡番那個course,可能那裡只是玩遊戲！

Does your kid eat lunch before going home?  Have you tried the restaurant there?  My daughter always refuse to eat after school.  Maybe too tired la!  How about yours?

Agreed.  
Do you leave your son by himself in the Smart EQ Workshop?  If he's OK without you around, I can't see why he cries in the playgroup.

My daughter goes home right away after the playgroup.  She has lunch at home, usually something simple like noodles.  And then she'll have a nap.  If she's really tired, she might fall asleep in the bus and have a late lunch after her nap.  My daughter doesn't have problem with her lunch.  Instead, she always skips dinner. We haven't tried the restaurant there.

我個仔上完playgroup後,婆婆便會接他回家,弄些通心粉或蒸水蛋送飯等簡單的lunch給他吃,不過都試過D lunch未煮好佢巳經瞓着了！

我諗可能是EQ班是一些中国人姐姐和整個課堂都是講中文,所以他較有安全感,就算自己一個人上堂都唔喊！上個Sat我在班房外等他,都常聽到他發言和笑！

It's good to hear that your boy can stay on his own in the EQ playgroup.  My girl still told me that she didn't want to go to the playgroup and she cried again this morning when the helper went outside.

Will you join the outing tomorrow with your kids?  As I know, there are only 2 kids (inluding my daughter) in "camel" will stay in school.  I think they will group those kids and join the other classes.

Do you arrange any other actvities after YMCA?

我不會參加明天的旅行了！不過我都唔知阿仔嗰班有多少人唔去！

除了summer playgroup之外，我仲報了EQ班、香兒的優質音樂啟蒙班和康文處的幼兒水上安全班！游水班玩到5號就完了，EQ班就至到9月中，音樂班為期6個月的，我會再觀察吓佢是否真的喜歡才决定9月會否繼續！

你又如何安排你女女的活動？

婆婆話阿仔近排好咗好多，只是早上發脾氣唔肯番学，但喊一輪之後都肯出門口，去到課室就叫婆婆走啦，課室D櫈唔俾大人坐架！   在課堂上都沒有喊(佢自己話) :wink:

My daughter didn't join the outing.  I think it's too hot and I'm afraid of the mosquitoes too.  I haven't arranged anything after the playgroup finishes.  In fact, I'm afraid to arrange anything for her, from the experience of this playgroup.  I'm afraid it will be a waste of money.  Any advice?

Is your son enjoying the music and the swimming lessons too?  Other than the playgroup, my daughter also has gym and swimming lesson once a week.  She likes the gym but not swimming.

My helper told me that there were only 3 of them from the camel group that didn't join the outing.  Your daughter and mine were 2 of the 3 then. My daughter was very happy because she had her previous teacher for class activities yesterday.

We didn't join the outing too because she need to attend 2 more activities after school and I'm afraid she will be too tired.  My daughter also has gym and swimming class once a week.  She  has ice skating class starting from last week and she loves very much.

昨天我放假親自帶阿仔番playgroup，大約11点我上去走廊裝阿仔上堂，我見到有10個左右的小孩圍圈坐在地上玩樂器，阿仔正大力拍打搖鼓，非常開心！另外，亦見到有2個helper陪2個小女孩，我想可能其中一個是Sandrine的女女吧！

阿仔比較鍾意游水班，雖然他很怕D水入眼和鼻，但始終有水玩，都是比較開心！至於音樂班，我就覺得他一半一半！音樂班的課程都是比較沈悶，不像唱遊堂般又玩又跳，所以阿仔只能有耐性坐一陣，之後便在課室四圍遊！所以現在仍未決定9月join唔join！其實另一個原因是阿仔每天都要午睡，遲D開咗學，佢番完上午班回家吃過午飯後，便開始睡魔急call，而音樂班就2至3，正好撞正午班時間！

Angelmami,你女女幾歲？咁快可以学溜冰？不是要5,6歲才有得學嗎？

Probably yes. My helper told me that she stayed with my daughter because another girl in the class also had a helper staying.

It's good that your son is enjoying his swimming lessons.  My daughter doesn't and again, it's a waste of money.  

So does your son take a nap before his music lesson now?  I dare not arrange anything for my daughter before 4pm because she needs a nap after lunch.  That's why her after-playgroup activities are very limited.

My girl still cries in the playgroup and it really bothers me.  I just tell myself that she'll have one more week to cry.
