My son was born Oct 2011 so he is not eligible for applying Pre Grade 1 in ICS. May I know if it's better to apply Reception 2 this year or wait until next year to apply PG1 directly as a big boy? Are R2 students guaranteed to be promoted to PG1 provided no big troubles found? More chances being accepted in R2 or PG1? Thanks so much for your advice!

Oct 2011 is now 2015-2016 R1. You can apply 2016-2017 R2 now (though chance is slim as not much vacancy). Of course you can apply 2017-2018 pregrade 1, but mind you the vacancy of pregrade 1 is just a little bit more. I don't know the priority of just entering R2 only but only priority will be for existing R2 students, and they will have internal test for pregrade 1 during classes. No guarantee is made for promotion to R2 to pregrade 1 and thus backup schools are recommended.

Can you elaborate more on the "internal tests" for kindy child? I have yet to understand the academic aspect of the school but do they push young children to learn something above their age? Hence the "tests"?

My English is not good enough. Sorry for misunderstanding. What I meant is the assessment for pregrade 1 for Existing R2 student is conducted in class setting.

And as far as I know, IS (including ICS) the intake interviews are different from local that the academic or 'knowledge above their age' is not their concern. Thus no preparation is needed. Though fluency of English is a consensus.

i did applied for R2 and it depends on the R1 leaver and in my case, no one leave in R1 and no intake were given at R2. And it is very rare to leave after R1 unless you are relocating to other country.

Thanks so much for the info. Very helpful :) To conclude, chance isn't high for ICS primary if I didn't put him there since R1, right?

years ago was something like 60 kids in R2 and 72 intake in Pre-grade 1. hence, 12 seats for outsider. However, there are priorities before kindy such as sibling, staffs and alumni's child, so you should expect less than 12 seats for Pre-grade 1.

May I ask if you know the number of R2 students not able to get admitted to Pre grade 1? As far as what you know, what kind of students won't be accepted to pre grade 1?

Official answer is English fluency is the factor. In R1 parent teacher conference you will be informed about school's concern about the kids. Ad-hoc conference would be held for if needed. That's what I know so far.

That means if the teacher doesn't raise her concern to me, my boy should be ok?
He's just in R1 and I'm a bit worried if by the end of the day after R2, he wouldn't get a seat in pre grade 1.
