ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
- For admission to the BBA(Law) programme, there are no additional requirements other than the University entrance requirements.
- JUPAS applicants will be given preference for admission if students list the BBA(Law) programme as their choice in Band A, but other applicants will be considered if there are places available. Most successful applicants have obtained good grades in the HKALE in a single sitting.
- The School of Business may invite individual applicants to attend interviews.
PROGRAMME AIMS AND FEATURES
The BBA(Law)/LLB programme is designed to provide students with professional knowledge and intensive training in the fields of both business and law. It is jointly offered by the School of Business and the Faculty of Law, and contains a mixture of business and law courses.
BBA(Law) students are required to complete 195 credit units for the whole curriculum. Students may also have the option to major in accounting by taking additional 2 courses. Graduates of the programme may choose to undertake two more years of study to complete the degree of Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in the Faculty of Law, which is the basic requirement needed to pursue a legal profession. After successful completion of the fifth year of the LLB programme, students may apply for admission to the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) programme provided that they meet the relevant admission requirements.
Students enrolled in the BBA(Law) programme are given an opportunity to pursue two degrees, BBA(Law) and LLB, over five years. The BBA(Law)/LLB double-degree programme blends two strategic disciplines into a single programme for the bright and highly motivated. It is a good choice for students seeking a broader education and a degree of flexibility in their future careers.
The BBA(Law) programme with a major in Accounting is also accredited as an approved accountancy programme under the Professional Accreditation System of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Graduates of the BBA(Law) programme are recognised by the HKICPA as accountancy degree holders who have fulfilled the stipulated pre-entry educational requirements. They are also eligible to obtain maximum exemptions from professional examinations organised by the ACCA, and need to take only five papers.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The BBA(Law)/LLB double-degree programme is designed for students who are interested in the legal and accounting professions as well as the investment banking and corporate finance fields.
Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Law)
Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Eng (Law)
CAREER PROSPECTS
The CivE-Law degree is both versatile and innovative. Graduates of this programme will benefit from a distinctive blend of state-of-the-art civil engineering and legal knowledge, unlike traditional civil engineers and lawyers, and will undoubtedly be in demand in today's rapid changing economy. In addition to traditional civil engineering openings (see CivE career prospects), many other career options will be open for these graduates. Graduates who seek formal practical training in law, and who fulfil the requirements of practical assessments, will become qualified solicitors or barristers in a few years. Graduates with proper training may choose to work as legal advisors for government departments, major developers/clients, contracting organisations or professional institutions. Many consulting practices specialise in construction claims, mediation and arbitration, and CivE-Law graduates will have the right qualifications to pursue a fruitful career in these organisations. Overall, the programme will prepare students for a fruitful career in either engineering or law, or a combination of the two.
