I attended 真道 grade 3 students' open classes (science and social studies) and found that:
1. Teachers aroused students' learning interests by adopting demonstrations (besides teacher's demo, students also had a try), pictures, videos, news clippings, etc to illustrate the theme.
2. Teachers encouraged students to inquire, answer, and discuss and coordinate among group members.
3. Majority students were creative, active in participation and had good observation.
4. Basic knowledge of the theme (energy and climate changed) and words recognition are introduced, and brain storming is led.
They said they achieved the strengths of activity-based teaching method which include promoting learning interest and critical thinking skill. However, they pointed out that sometimes it is hard for students to express in writing. Will it be the weakness of activity-based teaching method?
For sure that if students can't understand or don't have interest, they may have variation. Therefore, it requires parents and teachers further assistance. In other words, whichever teaching methods (traditional or activity), contribution among students, parents and teachers is necessary. |
