Since the competition is keen, every little detail does matter. From my last year experience, each round 5 children were waiting outside Mrs. Fielding’s office. When she came out and asked your child’s name, your greeting, dress code and manner were being continuously assessed and inevitably, it unveiled a lot about your family background & your English proficiency.
How do you response? How do you initiate the conversation? How do you show your courtesy and conclude the dialogue right after the interview? Whether your child is stepping forward on his/her own with smile & confidence OR just being dragged to Mrs.Fielding with undisclosed unwillingness. Every tiny thing makes a difference.
Never ask your child to recite. I saw a well groomed mum doing a last-minute rehearsal with her darling: “Can you briefly introduce yourself?”, “My name is XXX. I am 3 years old. I study in YYY kindergarten… blah blah blah….” Imagine how many times Mrs. Fielding is being forced to hear the same phrases in the 40 (or so) days of interview? It is just nothing more than a malfunctioned cassette recorder repeating annoying noise even the gal possessed an excellent accent.
Do encourage your child ASK a question during the interview. For a 3 years old kid, able to ask a meaningful question in front of a stranger is a strong sign of confidence. Moreover, I deeply believe a pleasant interview should be conducted interactively – communicating in both directions.
