I don't doubt your statement at all. There are so many parents who are now paying more or less the same amount of money for the new DSS. I am sure they won't mind at all to pay extra for the chance to send the kids to SPCC or DB/GS. We will sure have enough rich kids at these schools, but are they competitive enough against their counterparts in the public sector?
For a lot of middle-class families, if they are asked to cough up $80,000 ayear, given that their children are good enough for schools like BPS, QC, St Joseph, Marymount, SSGC, La Salle, Maryknoll Convent..., which are still free at the moment, I am not so sure they will pick SPCC or DB/GS without much thinking. You've to look at the history of Hong Kong schools to understand why these schools (including SPCC and DB/GS) are enjoying their positions today.
If anything, we are witnessing a turning point of Hong Kong education. Give it another 10 years, it may be a different story.
