Radiomama, I know which competition you are referring to. It's already improved this year, in past years, they closed the doors for the preliminary round, and no one even can tell what happened in the room ! It was so ridiculous.
Yes, they jam pack the competitors together as much as possible, so of course, no time to discuss or give comments.
No repeats are required or allowed in examinations unless specified. In competitions, unless specified, the performer CAN perform repeats, but it should be different in the repeat, otherwise, why repeat? That would be the question of the adjudicators.
Memorization- it depends whether it was stated clearly in the guidelines and rules of the competition. Typically, I ask students to memorize, that is more professional, however, if it wasn't stated in the competition, as ABRSM and Trinity both allow books for the exams, it is very common that people do use their books for their performances in HK.
Just like HKSMA's competitions, competitors are allowed books.
Anyways, glad your child had an experience, whether he won or not, by going on stage, he should be a winner in your eyes, and heart.
Congratulations! |
